Another request for pickup suggestions:

I have a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe. Stats are found here:

(Despite the "Studio" label, it is a solid-body guitar, not chambered.)

Body: Mahogany with maple top
Neck: Mahogany
Fretboard: Baked maple

I strive to play classic rock and early metal, say 1968-1983. Zeppelin, Sabbath, Rush, James Gang, Metallica. I really like the sound of the Rebel Yell, but have read that it can be bright. I really want a fat, warm sound that sounds good distorted. Nothing too agressive, but not too vintage either. Are there any other pickups & pickup combinations that I should consider?

Post by: darrenw5094 on June 01, 2013, 11:08:46 PM: I am getting a bit peeved with the BD in my Tokai LP. Mids are huge, maybe to much. It's paired with a Riff Raff neck, which is pretty bright compared to the BD.

Those are fairly diverse-sounding bands!

I think P-90s are good for James Gang tones, but on the whole I'm not arguing with the Black Dog suggestion. Definitely not Rebel Yells!

Yeah, that's true. Although for Metallica, I really only meant their early days (1983, pre-EMG for them). Basically I'm looking for a good hard rock/early metal sound.

For James Gang, this is the sound I meant. Huge wall of sound!
