Title: Pickup help.
Post by: Halation on June 15, 2013, 03:12:57 PM
Hi guys, I need help on selecting a set of pickups for my Les Paul Standard (10lbs 13oz's) which I use a heavy string gauge of D'addario's 12-16-20p-32-42-54.. I play it through a marshall jvm410h. The sort of sound I am after is the Def Leppard sound (Hysteria and Pyromania). What pickup set would you recommend? I was thinking the Holydiver set or the Seymour Duncan jb/jazz set.
Thanks! :D

Rebel Yell if you want a brighter sound, Holy Diver for a warmer/smoother sound.

If your Les Paul isn't too dark, I'd say Holydiver without a doubt and an Emerald in the neck. The perfect pickup combination. If, however, your guitar is quite dark sounding, I'd go with a Cold Sweat set. Classic Gibson tone and the brighter nature of the pickup will compliment a darker guitar.

Another vote for the Rebel Yell here.

Another vote for the RY's. With those heavy strings they should be spot on.

I have Rebel Yells in a heavy through neck guitar. V. nice and dynamic but on the other hand they can be a bit on the bright side when clean. Certainly no flubby bass to deal with - great and precise when ran heavy & loud

I have another LP style guitar with the JB/Jazz combo but the first time I ran the RYs it was clear that they were far more open and dynamic and with an almost vintage character from what i assume is the scatter winding.

Will have a HD this week and may do some swapping around. I have hopes for the HD in a brighter guitar I have.
