Title: Thinline tele build
Post by: guitar.hero on August 08, 2013, 03:34:32 PM
I’m currently having a thinline tele type built, a mahogany body with a thin maple cap and fixed maple neck. The mahogany body will have slightly more air in it than a traditional thinline as both sides of the centre block are routed out.

It will have a standard tele type bridge with brass saddles, and (custom/deluxe style) twin volume and tone. The initial plan is to have a tele bridge pickup with a standard humbucker rout for the neck, I’m sure there are fans of the Fender humbucker out there but with a standard mount there’s more choice of pickup to play around with. With the twin volume/tone layout the idea is to have the optimum pot for each pickup, 500K for the neck and 250K for the bridge.

So are there any thinline fans out there who have a favourite BK tele bridge pickup?

Does anyone have a favourite BK neck humbucker(or P90)/tele bridge combination?

As far as styles of music, I’m hoping for something pretty versatile, pop, blues, country and classic rock.

I think a BG52-bridge and a Mule-neck would make a great combo to cover these styles.
The BG52 can twang, but if you roll the tone a tad down, it get's quite fat for a single coil.
The open and vocal Mule-neck just kills in mahogany.

Thanks for the response it certainly sounds interesting. Does the BG52 retain fatness with the standard tele treble bleed circuit?

I'm also intrigued by the idea of a P90 neck with a tele bridge pickup, have you ever tried this combination?

With this set up I'd do a Brown Sugar/Mule set.  Other than the obvious Keith sounds, it is actually a really versatile set for what you are putting together.

The BG52 is quite fat for a single coil and won't fall apart rolling down the volumeknob.
The tele-bridge/neck-p90 is a classic. I would select a pickup for the bridge with enough output to balance with a Mississippi Queen- or a Nantucket-neck. A BG50 or a Boss.
