Meanwhile I had the Abraxas neck in a few different guiitars but have not written a dedicated review about it - I guess it's time!
I first had it in a swamp ash bodied guitar (the whole set) and later in the heavy mahogany bodied guitar paired with a Cold Sweat bridge. It worked fine in both guitars but lost against the Holydiver neck in both guitars which I liked better.
Having played my favorite Les Paul with the Crawler and VHII I kept thinking that these pickups were too high in output for the guitar and flattened the dynamics of the guitar too much. I then tried the Abraxas neck (together with a Grosh G4 in the bridge).
I would rate the output of the Abraxas neck as vintage rather than vintage hot but I guess the bridge pickup is the reason why this set is in the vintage hot category. The clarity and string separation this pickup shows in this particular guitar are incredible - it did not do this to this extent in the other guitars I had it in. In all guitars it offered a vintage character. A further benefit is that it does not have any mud in the bass, has a really singing tone but is not too fat. It really feels at home in this particular guitar. I have never played a Mule neck but I can imagine that the Abraxas neck is quite close to it.
The Crawler / VHII set was moved to another guitar. More on this to follow.
Cheers Stephan

Similar to the mule but it has more mids than the slightly scooped mule. Gives it a hotter feel than the mule.

sounds pretty spot on to my experience of the abraxas neck too stephan. unfortunately i can't translate that into words as well as you
since fitting the set i have found myself using the neck pickup alot more than i ever did before.

Nice review. If the Abraxas-neck is close to a Mule, an Abraxas-bridge/Mule-neck would be a nice balanced set too. Besides that. I'm wondering if a Crawler/Mule-combo would have some crispiness left in the middleposition.

Always wanted to try a Abraxas bridge with Mule neck in a Les Paul.
Someday.........
