Pfff!
-
It's all about it inspiring you to play better, surely?
-
I wonder where he got the idea for his on stage image from? I bet he was watching the matrix drunk and thought he'd look like an agent from now on....it's a really good idea and extremely original.

Probably got it from all those other Blues guys who had it hard with addictions to artificial sweetener longing for guitars they'd bought online to arrive intact.
I'm making fun, but he does have some killer riffs.

His guitar face is nearly as good as Gary Moores

Hey, no matter how stupid a face someone might pull, it can't be as stupid as these clowns (who actually POSED for this and then decided to use it as a publicity shot):

As someone said on Blabbermouth, they look like they are 'pinching massive loaves'

So just coming back to this signature strap.....
Is it actually something people can buy, or does he just have a strap with his name on?
The former would be unforgivable. The latter would be pretty lame but hey, Albert King had a guitar with his name inlaid on the fretboard and got away with it, so a strap's not that bad.
-
I know a couple of guys who had a little band that played in pubs once in a while and they got these comfy straps made up with sheepskin pads on the shoulder. The person who made them must have asked if they wanted any custom logos on them, so they got their nicknames put on them. Didn't look that silly, it just looked like the kind of stuff you get in those shops that cater to bikies though
-
You're darn tooting you can buy it. ErnieBall even dedicated an a4 size advert for it in the latest guitarist. It can be yours for £45 odd http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004MYE952 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004MYE952)

Gold foil? What's he a pimp now???

He's got other colours too, some of which look quite nice. And tbh I've seen them online for about half of that, which isn't that bad a deal.

He actually has a with his name on the fretboard, as does B.B.King (which is where he got the inspiration for it from).
-
a strap with your name on is ok. It's kind of arrogant in a cool way. sort of.
'endorsing' a strap or having a 'signature' strap is just a way to get paid money while some company sells golds straps. If i was approached to do something like that, get paid to do nothing, I might be down. I pretty much get paid to pretend to work anyway... if only I didnt even have to pretend!
It's not quite as annoying as dudes with millions of endorsement deals that never use any of the kit anyway. At least JB uses the same core stuff and shows it off every time someone does a rig rundown.
also... this riff

Like Dimebag with Krank or Iommi with BC Rich guitars and Boogie amps (early '80s) and more recently Engl amps (Heaven & Hell)

haha I heard that riff and immediately thought of this. Nice try Mr.Bonamassa, nice try.
Pantera - I'm Broken (Official Video) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-V8kYT1pvE#)
-
oh it sounds like Broken, no doubt, and a million other songs that use that descending pentatonic shape. However, the widdly bit is fun to play. More fun than playing most of Broken in your living room and I'm a much bigger Pantera fan than a JB fan. It kind of gets on my nerves that Dime's name is still being used to sell stuff he obviously has had nothing to do with.
-
Got mixed feelings about Joe - he seems to be endorsing everything under the sun and often comes over as arrogant both on and off stage.
Then I come across some of his work on YouTube and think .. well perhaps I can put up with all that cr@p if he plays like this .... like some of his material with Beth Hart and some of his earlier stuff with Eric Czar on bass - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PGOP9J1uAg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PGOP9J1uAg)
-
Here's my strap.
Nuff said.

A 'Pulp Fiction' fan I see ...

That whole Rockpalast DVD is filled with gems. Clearly the pinnacle of his work.

I loved Joe's tones on that Gigliotti Tele and his gold sparkle Strat but he's since dumped all things Fender.
I mean his LP sounds great but......
Eric Czar blew my mind just like Stu Hamm did when I saw him with Satriani.
-
I much prefer him with a LesPaul than with a Strat. With a Strat he's just another guy doing the whole post SRV thing which leaves me dead. Don't get me wrong - I was (like most) obsessed with SRV in my teens :D Not keen on him with a LesPaul either, mind - he's some weird amalgamation of Eric Johnson and Beano Clapton.

+1. Totally agree. I far prefer him with a les paul.
-
Lately I watched a recordingvideo. I must admit he played some great licks. Good tones from his Les Paul too.
-
I saw a documentary about him when he was a chubby little 12 or 13 year old child guitar prodigy. He was playing a Strat then - a '54 hardtail!
-

Yes - I think that's a pretty accurate description. I've also noticed exact Peter Green, Paul Kossoff and Jeff Beck licks in some of his playing which I suppose is not surprising as he openly admits his main influences were Brit rock/blues players and not black/American players.

Yea, he's a master at sounding like everyone except himself.

Yea, I've seen that. I'm pretty sure he comes from alot of money and is a cultivated 'career bluesman'. He and John Mayer can go suck each others dick as far as I'm concerned  they got dem white boy bluez
Great tone, though ;-p
