I've been thinking about changing my VH2 neck for a while now. It's really quite dark in this guitar and a little boomy. I want something more open and mid/high focused that's gonna work well on its own and in the middle position with the RY. I'm thinking either a RiffRaff or another RebelYell would be best?
Ash body with thick maple top. Maple neck and fingerboard.

Hi I have a set of Riff Raff's in a SG and they certainly are a bright pickup. I wonder if you would trade the pickups being too dark sounding for being too bright sounding. I have no experience with Rebel Yells but do wonder if the bridge pickup sounds good, if you would be better going for a rebel yell in the neck position too.

I doubt the VHII is too 'dark' so I'm wondering if the issue you're having with the VHII is similar to the one I had with the Crawler neck - it's just too vintage voiced for you. If that's the case, I think you should do what I did and go to a more modern neck pickup. That being the case, the Rebel Yell neck should be a good choice.

Yea, I think the best thing to do is get a RYneck at some point and see. That may be the case, Slarti, who knows 8)

I second Slarti's recommendation to complete the RY set with the neck pickup. It is very clear and articulate and an excellent match to the bridge pickup.
