Hey all, well as you might have found out/overheard/be completely oblivious to, I've finally been managing to get a band together.I guess I'm posting this cos I'm excited! At the moment, it's a trio - a bassist who's into electronica, a drummer whose into 70's synth prog stuff, and me, a rock guitarist who wishes he could play jazz/avant garde.
Well, we've only practised twice now, and we recorded parts of the second rehearsal on Monday night. The music is completely improvised - it veers between funky stuff, to more composed cyclical instrumental pieces to full on wierdo-jazz things. I'm enjoying it - we're currently looking at getting some samplers and laptops involved, possibly; it's pretty open-minded!
So, here's a jam from Monday night. It's completely spontaneous and unrehearsed, and as I say, it's only from our second rehearsal so we're still getting to know each other. The recording quality isn't great (we only had one mic) - this is why I haven't posted it in the Player's Room - but it's still pretty passable, although my guitar has a tendency to get lost in the mix on solos.
Speaking of guitars, the set-up was my new Strat thing with Mothers Milk/Crawlers, a fuzz, and a JCM800. It would be interesting to hear what you think of it (bearing in mind that it's only a jam!):

pretty cool willo mate!!! especially for all just improvised stuff....
your definately right though- you get lost in the mix in some places- drums are wayyyy too loud- but good!- sounds like youve got yourself a decent drummer there, and the bassist is cool as well. good luck with it dude.
EDIT: who does that bit of random high-pitched singing at the beginning? ahahahah!?!??! its actually pretty cool in a weird bluesy/rock/ac/dc singer kinda way.

:D Sounds like you`ve got your self a strange bunch of musicians there "willo" Some nice ideas in there i think.

oh, I think you have to wait for the countdown to, well, count down (obviously!) and then, in the place where the counter previously was - towards the top right of the screen - the 'Click Here To Download' link will appear. Trouble is, that a few seconds before the end of the countdown a pop-up panel will appear and obscure the link until you click on the advert panel to close. Behind that, is the link to download. Hope that makes some sense?
Oh, and cheers, JT & Sam - the singing is from the bassist, because I was saying how this one rock riff we'd written, if you accented the rhythm slightly differently it sounded like Indian music. :P I think at the end we started laughing about rock and roll cliches, as well!

ah right lol. yer at the end your definately laughing about something! :D

I liked it, your drummer is too loud though, as allready stated. Or, you're just not cranking enough

A fair bit of promise there Willo- great sound for just one mic too. You will have to keep us appraised.

That's cool! From what I can hear of you it is, anyways. I hear a lot of bass and cymbals. :(

Cool clip Willo. I really liked what i heard, especially the laughter, having a good time, really put a smile on my face and made me enjoy the clip even more so.
Keep up the great work! :D

Ha, cheers guys! :D I'm glad it put a smile on your face, lepers! That's what music should be all about...It's fun for me too, it's been way too long since I last played with a band, let alone got to make the kind of music that I want.
I hear a lot of bass and cymbals. :(
Yes, I know....we need MORE GUITAR! Don't worry, it shall be 'revenge of the lead guitarist' at the next practice
although, some of the stuff I've been writing sounds a bit like Sigur Ros. Hmmm...I'll have to try and cram at least one solo in there somewhere...
