Hi
Been reading this forum for a few weeks and just signed up. Used all of the great advice and reviews on here and ordered an aged raw nickel Black Dog for the bridge position of my Les Paul on Friday, can't wait to get in installed. I have also got a Brown Sugar in my Telecaster which made me come back for my LP.

Lots of mids dude. Don't set the pickup too close to the strings or it will flub out totally. Didn't like mine much compared to my other BKP's, but then i realised i had the pickup too high.

Thanks for the tip.

Hope you like the BD. Scatterwound pickups are sensitive for height, so tweak a bit untill you find the sweet spot.

The sweet spot on mine is actually setting it quite high.
Great pickup, my favorite BKP.

It was shipped yesterday. I'll have a play about with the height as suggested. I've liked the sound of it on the demos I've heard so hopefully I'll get what I'm after!

Yeah you always need to fiddle with the height. You can also move the pole pieces up and down once you have the height roughly right. On my SG (which has a big neck angle) I actually have the bridge pole pieces up a long way to compensate somewhat for the angle. On a Les Paul you won't need to do that so much. It does change the sound though, makes it more defined relative to the output.
Also, we don't have very many Telecaster reviews on here and none on the Brown Sugars (hint, hint) ...

I liked it pretty close to strings

Same here, I've very slightly (one or two turns) raised the polepieces on my SG's bridge pickup and it gives a bit more clarity, probably due to more treble.

It's a great pickup - enjoy! I had no problems in setting its height.
Cheers Stephan
