An update on my instructional site, Melodic Rock Guitar Concepts. I've found a host that doesn't cost much money, and am working out a way to get the video clips loaded right now. Most of the content for the first part (Creative Chords)is complete, I just have to sit down and pool it all together, pay for the domain name and hosting, and get it up there. It's running pretty much on schedule at the moment.
Once the site it up, it will run on a pure donation basis for the 1st year. If the site pulls in enough money to renew the hosting, then it will live past the first year and will grow into the site I know it can be.
More details coming soon!!

Awesome Ben! Sounds like a great idea - particularly if it's possible to run it on a donation-only basis, you're bound to get lots of interest as most places suck you in and then hit you with the price. (although, obviously good tuition does come at a price,as does webspace etc). But, sounds like a really great thing so good luck with it! :D

That will be great Ben. I am sure that you can count on the support of your forum "bro's" ( is that the expression?). Judging by your playing that I have encountered, it'll be well worth it.

Looks good - let us know when it's up and running!
You could try getting some revenue by advertising through Google AdSense:

I'm not sure how much money you'd actually get from this (Google are a bit cagey about saying), but it might be worth a shot.

good luck with it ben.... what exactly will it entail though? my intellect is slightly... um.... less developed...

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how this turns out. It's likely to have all sorts of useful stuff about the things at which I most suck :) which is exactly the sort of thing I need to see!

It will be aimed at the intermediate guitarist. It will focus on taking those basic skills and developing your own voice on the instrument. It will also focus more on the how of writing riffs and solos, not just the mechanics. The technical stuff takes a back seat to seeing how to come up with something that's still heavy, but melodic.
It will be divided into 10 rough sections: Creative Chords (this will cover basic power chords, as well as using scale intervals to create interesting riffs), The Major Scale, The Natural Minor Scale, The Pentatonic Scale, Modes, Finger Tapping, Slides, Bending, Advanced Riffing Techniques, and Lead Tips & Tricks.
I'm still working on the final organisation of the information. It will have a lot of stuff on there, with text, TABs, dowloadable backing tracks to practice with, video clips, etc.

This website sounds great. Can't wait...

Sounds a really interesting site mate. And speaking from a personal point of view, I have no issues with making donations to web sites that I found useful/informative, etc. I think donations are far the nicest way of doing things (the forum I help run relies totally on donations to cover hosting costs, and has done succesfully for several years now).

Yes! This is what I need!
There seems to be loads of material out there for beginners, and quite a bit for advanced players, but not much for us inbetweenies.
Also, as Muttley says, the donation thing can work. I made my word processor "donationware" for a while, so I could fund buying extra programming components. I asked really nicely and got a huge response from people all over the world. Not nearly enough to give up the day job, though.
