Title: LP Custom/Anderson HC3's
Post by: T4LJaredK on September 10, 2013, 04:51:06 AM
Hi. I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm not rehashing too much. Here goes. Got a Gibson LP Custom w/Tom Anderson HC3's that I'm looking to replace-love the sound, just wanting to bring the guitar back to a "stock look". BKP's are the obvious choice to me. The HC3's are moderately hot and I think they are ceramic-@ least the bridge anyway. They are described as having a focused mid-range energy w/sweet, soft and soothing highs. lol. My setup and sound-Boogie Mark V, Keeley 4-knob compressor, Earnie Ball Vol., Tremonti Wah, Maxon od808, Fulltone OCD, Boss NS-2 noise suppressor, Ibanez Flying Pan, & Pigtronix Echolution. In the fx loop-TC Gmajor 2. Sound-90's grunge-Opeth-djent. Broad I know. So far I have been suggested the Alnico V Nailbomb set and having listened to a number of examples of them on youtube-through good speakers-they sound awesome, just not sure. Ceramic option? Different set totally? Thoughts. Also just got a Alex Lifeson LP-looking to replace the 498t/496r as well.

Hi and welcome!

For the style you describe yeah, the NB will get it down best I feel. 90s? Opeth? Fur sure.
On the count of ceramic or alnico I am not quite sure, for the djenty part perhaps the ceramic will lend itself better.

The Alex Lifeson is supposed to do which style?

Cheers!

Thanks Kiichi! Appreciate the warm welcome and input! Feeling confident about the Nailbomb's. As far as the Alex Lifeson goes I would be using it for pretty much the same sound and style. I was just curious due to the Graph Tech/Floyd Rose and weight relieved body if that would have any kind of noticeable effect on the overall warmth of the guitar. I'm sure it does a little. Thanks again!

To get a little more range out of the two guitars you might wanne put something different in the LP.

Can you compare the acoustic tonality of the two?

Also while they are generally the same area, do they have different focus points? Like one more the metal one more the grunge side or something?
Anything to help find the fitting PU for the LP really.

Ya I was thinking that-putting something different in the Custom vs the Lifeson. I think I would keep the Custom more the harder edged one & have the Lifeson, cause of the acoustic ability, the more versatile of the two. I think unplugged the Lifeson is the brighter one. Of course that being said I would like to keep them w/in the same spectrum as much as possible, so there's not a lot of redialing of the amp sound. Don't mean to sound inflexible. :-)
