Title: NSD!
Post by: MrBump on September 12, 2013, 05:53:37 PM
Yes, new saxophone day!

Edward Bump (not real name) has signed up for sax lessons at school, and we now have this beast at home.

It's surprisingly easy to get a sound out of - the fingering is a biatch though!  I've checked out some YooToob stuff, and it's bloody complicated!

He's really psyched though, so I'll pile on the encouragement. Would be awesome to have a proper sax player in the family.

I have to be honest, I absolutely hate saxophones in pop/rock music (with one or two exceptions)!  Sorry!

Still, my opinion doesn't matter, I hope young Edward enjoys himself and keeps it up!  :D

Actually I do quite like that.

Bloody long time since I've heard it.  In fact I'd forgotten all about that band.

Hah! I don't like that!!!

I'm a fan of the saxophone.  Someone like Michael Brecker - just awesome.

That's awesome!
The Saxophone is my favourite instrument other than guitar by a country mile, and I've heard it's not all that difficult to learn.
In fact, someone I know wanted to get into music as a "serious hobby" (along w/ flying planes, helicopters, bungee jumping and skydiving)  8) and he was specifically recommended the saxophone because of it's relative simplicity. He now plays in a orchestra.

I'm pro sax. We have a hornsection in the band and when it roars it really gives the band a boost.

Any other instruments that are meant to be easy?  I'm shite at this guitar lark.  :|

Congrats on your son getting interested in music. My oldest son has no real interest in it at all, though we do share a love of tabletop gaming in common.

As for horns in rock music, it can be GREAT when done right!
