Daredevil was pretty bad but most comic book movies or remakes from childhood are.  I dont think Affleck is a bad actor but hes nowhere near as good as Chrisian Bale.

I had my doubts about Heath Ledger and needless to say his performance was incredible.  Im worried Affleck wont be good enough but the idea of superman and batman being in the same film is even more worrying its obviously just a cash cow.  I just cant see the point in superman...... and only christopher nolan could save this mess.

^ this.

I saw the new superman movie. It was actually fantastic for the first hour or so, Clarkes early life, coming to terms with his powers, Kevin Costner nicking the film right out from under everybody with his performance as Jonathon Kent, then Zach Snyder got bored and decided that nowhere near enough buildings had been demolished and proceeded to demolish a citys worth of buildings for the next hour.

I'm sure I could watch it and enjoy it but I just think the idea of batman and superman or the justice league will just cheapen the last few batman films.

yeah, would be good brain junkfood, but i wouldn't expect anything as well thought out as the batman films, or even the first hour of Man of Steel.

Never know, might be suprised

Daredevil was great, if we're talking about the director's cut - and I say that as someone who hated the theatrical cut when I saw it in the cinema.

But anyway, Ben Affleck's a pretty good actor, a good director and a clever chap.  I think he'll be up to the task.  And hopefully he won't talk in a silly growly voice like Bale did...

Yes, it's still the same basic storyline of course, but the film is about 10-15 minutes longer, the back-story is fleshed out a bit, the overall tone is darker and there's much less emphasis on the Daredevil/Elektra romance.  Sadly Colin Farrell is still in it as Bullseye....

Interestingly, when the film came out on Blu-ray (as opposed to the original DVD release) they only included the director's cut - so maybe the producers finally realised their mistake.  They'd pretty much killed the director's career already though.

Ive never really read comics but ive seen stuff online and is that the stuff frank miller wrote?
The fight he has with superman isnt a bad idea but as much as superman irritates me and i like batman surely it would just be a no contest in a fight with superman winning?

Personally I like the bit in superman 2 where he loses his powers and gets beaten up by a random man in a cafe and his missus has to intervene haha what a hero!!

Yeah it is the Frank Miller one. Really, really dark and deep. Lots of stuff going on and really exploring the Batman character a lot. One has to read it to get the whole thing really. Well worth it I must say.

To me that one is up there in my top four graphic novels of all time with Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Maus.

For any fan of Batman it really is a must read imho and that is all I am gonna say about it.

Kinda the point.  There is no way Batman could beat Superman in a fair fight.

Batman is an ordinary man (albeit very rich) in a world of superheros.  The worst batman story lines rely purely on gadgets, but in the best he relies on his wits to outsmart the ones who almost always have odds in their favour

First of all, I don't like comic books and it seems that every second movie nowadays has to be based on one, featuring guys in Dorky suits with superpowers. No wonder I liked "Kick-ass".

Second, the Batmans are the only ones I kind of like and I like Bale as well. However, given that he's wearing a mask half of the time, does it really matter that much that it's Affleck now? I really don't think so.

kick-ass was also based on a comic book.  in fact, compared to most comic book movies its a very accurate adaptation

I never read any comic books but i remember stuff from my childhood and it seems most of these 'superhero' movies are as naff as hell and should be a lot better based on the original concepts.

Michael Bay completely destroyed transformers changing it from transformers fighting for the control of the universe to bad jokes and action scenes where you cant even tell whats going on im sure hes set to do the same with teenage mutant ninja turtles.  That guy doesnt get that lots of explosions and cgi doesnt mean a good film.

I havent liked any of the marvel either.

X men should have been a lot better than it was in my opinion.

Luckily most people have forgotten about the awful batman films with george clooney and valkilmer urggghh just shows you can take genius but leave it in the hands of an idiot and it will turn out a right mess.

I think you can still be a good/bad actor and wear a mask.  I do think that despite Ben Affleck being a bit of a douche he is a good actor but just not as good as Christian Bale.

You could also enjoy Watchmen then. Also another looks at (super)heroes. Allan Moore (the guy who also wrote V for Vendetta and Batman: The killing Joke) did a phantastic job writing this. It is as deep as a novel and there have been doctor thesy for psychology written about the characters if I recall correctly.
The characters are just so flashed out and play into the hand of guys who donīt like superheroes.
Even made the time list of the 100 greatest novels of all time.

There also is a movie of it, which did not do a bad job exactly, but its one of this things that you canīt really reach at all, at least not in one movie. Two big issues though: A) the ending has been changed for the worse B) the casting for the villan is a disaster

Anyone who likes comics and graphic novels really should give that one a shot, it is the absolute kind in my mind.

I really don't get the fascination with comic book films either. I liked Kick Ass and Iron Man is ok but I find the rest terribly overrated. Have seen so much uproar about Ben Affleck being the new Batman on facebook, surprised that many people care so much about something so average

I like comic book films.  Although I usually think CGI is over-used and actually spoils a lot of films, it's perfect for superhero movies because, at last, they can actually do the things you see in the comic books.

Whenever they tried to make superhero movies back in the '70s and '80s - like the Hulk series and the Spider-man TV movie with Nicholas Hammond - they were rubbish because the technology (and costumes/makeup) were totally inadequate.  Even when they managed to make a few scenes work there was no budget to also have proper super-villains so the Hulk never had any decent opponents, all he ever did was turn over cars and push over phone boxes.  :|

really?    Written by Mark Millar (impressive bibliography with all the big Comic book publishers), based on his childhood experiences of wanting to be a superhero and what might happen if he was.    It may parody the genre, but the joke comes from a loving place.   But even if you ignore that, I can't imagine why any one who hates comics would suddenly like kick-ass.  although saying you hate comics is a bit like saying you hate paintings or music and I wouldn't understand that either

He also wrote my favourite Superman story - Red Son.   another "what if" approach to a familiar story line that sees Superman landing is Soviet Russia rather than the good old US of A

Ohhh I definetly wanne read that, the idea is just so very awesome. Thanks for mentioning it!

My favorite Superman so far was Alan Moores (yeah I like the guy a lot) "Whatever happended to the man of tomorrow?". It was the last silver age Superman Story, the last of the Action Comics. After that there was the Man of Steel reboot.

Very good ideas in there making for a worthy possible finaly and I found the very end just tastefully touching.
