Hey guys. I recently bought 2008 model of MusicMan JP6 and i am not really happy with pickups there so i'm looking for new.
This guitar is suppose to be my workhorse (for everything). I know i am asking impossible but i would at least get close to the idea.
I would like to have nice cleans that gets spanky while coilsplitted, i want them to work well on mild bluesy overdrive but also be selective and tight on high gain.
So as you see i am looking for holy grail :D
I realise its pretty impossible to get all that but which humuckers would get me as close as possible?
Guitar is basswood and maple neck with rosewood fretboard.
Thanx for all the help.
Cheers

I'm not sure such a pickup exists but an Abraxas might be a decent place to start.

Yeah, would have been my thought too. If you need one PU to do it all that is probably by far your best bet.

Yeah, the Abraxas will give you both worlds more or less: vintage-attitude with more/mids balls and capable of doing heavier styles.
One more question: how bright or dark is the natural timbre of your Music Man?
-
It is quite bright. Thats one of the reasons i am not too happy with current pickups. Sounds too bright and too thin for my liking.

I would have said a Crawler as it's dark, thick and rich sounding. It's perfect in brighter guitars and is awesome in the Blues Rock/Classic Rock area but I wouldn't describe it as particularly tight. The Abraxas isn't quite as hot and is a bit brighter so that makes it seem a bit tighter but both are very versatile.

I would certainly consider the Crawler too. It isn't that hot and has still a good amount of PAF-pedigree, cleans up good and splits excellent. The neckpickup is quite warm.
