Title: Changing A- pig for....what bkp ? ( stratocaster guitar )
Post by: chopeth on September 25, 2013, 11:13:01 AM
Hi! Ive got a g&l legacy usa hb ( one piece seamp ash body, maple neck and ebony fretboard ) and ive got an alnico warpig in it but i prefer more bright pickup snd more ggressive ( more like a "knife" ) without losing the thickness , as much as its possible, that the warpig has. I have previously had ceamic nailbomb but it wasnt my thing.i mostly play fast, aggresive and thick tones like. Arch enemy, trivium or bullet for my valentine. Which pickup do you recomend me? Black hawk? Holy diver? Juggernout? Thank you very much!

Sounds to me like you might want an alnico Nailbomb or a Painkiller, something middy and hairy?

If your guitar is reasonably bright anyway, the A-Bomb may be a problem because it has a lot of upper mids. This will certainly make your guitar bright and aggressive but I'm not as convinced you'll have the thickness you're after. As at least one of the bands you mention used to use JB pickups, I'd suggest looking at the Holydiver. This one has a nice spread of mids in it so it should come across as tight, certainly bright compared to the A-Pig, smooth and thick. It shares some of the characteristics of the A-Pig, just taken down a couple of notches so it has the same warm, organic smoothness but without such a powerful bottom end. The Miracle Man would sit between the two in some ways as that's also warm and smooth but it's more scooped so while it has screaming highs, it also has a lot of low mids so has a more noticeable bottom end than the Holydiver. Overall, I think the Holydiver is the one for you.

Ive got a miracle man in an lp style guitar and its superb but in a swamp ash guitar i have my doubts...is the holy diver tighter than the apig? Its tight enough for fast mur playing?

The Holydiver isn't as tight as the Miracle Man, though I don't think it's a billion miles away. I'm not sure about compared to the A-Pig; GuitarIV would be a good person to ask as he has all three I believe.

I had an alnico nail bomb in a strat and it was just too bright for me and I feel like it lacked the out put I wanted.

Unsolder the Miracle Man from your other guitar and try it in this one.  You might like it.  It might even sound quite different.  At least it will give you a baseline to work from and you might just end up ordering a second MM

its a mm 7 , it would be difficult to install it in a 6 string guitar :P. Im thinking in waiting for some review of the juggernout because due to the magnetic combination, it seems to be very pleasant for the ear and tight than de holy diver or alnico warpig ! The nailbomb doesnt my thing !
