Hey guys! So I got a new Ibanez RG8 and it rocks and plays splendidly BUTT the pickups are terrible! Cheaper guitar so that was expected. I've been contemplating for awhile exactly what features I want in the guitar and it's been kind of hard getting a good grasp on it because there are so many random words to describe tone! (basswood body, 5 pc maple/walnut bolt on neck, 8 strings)
Bridge: I want something that can be thick and aggressive. I have a 5153 50 watter so I don't necessarily need a super high output pup I don't think. I just know I want to be able to have a really solid tone. Words to try and sum up the high gain tone I am after: Thick, punchy, firm, pronounced. I hope that somewhat describes it. (TesseracT: Of Mind-Exile Lyrics Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ATjBFzuNM#)) That is TesseracT's 'Of Mind- Exile' and the first few minutes kind of captures what I want. Maybe a little more low end. I do want a dynamic pickup. I have an Abaraxes in my Carvin 727 and I love it because of how amazingly sweet it can sound in context of its harmonics and if I could get some of that in the bridge that'd be stellar. So the heavy comes first and the dynamics and sweetness come second.
Neck: I have a Mule in my 727 and I kind of like it. For my neck pickup I usually use it more for clean/jazzy tones. I like having the tone to be... very articulate and very dynamic (touch sensitive to get my nuances). I usually will cut my tone knob down alot when playing on the mule as it sounds too... fuzzy/boomy. I like to kind of sound like I'm plucking with my cleans so a 'fatter' sounding pup does not mesh. I don't know if any of that makes sense.
I'll definitely be sending the BKP guys an email when I am ready to purchase but I thought I'd see what you guys think. I am slightly worried that the sound clips I hear online aren't too reliable because 1/ the 8 string versions might be a bit different and 2. I don't know how much my amp will make a difference as compared to the various reviews and demos out there. Thanks for any and all advice!
