Title: New DIY Pedal - Space Ritual
Post by: juansolo on October 12, 2013, 05:50:22 PM
I wouldn't normally post my pedals outside of the DIY forums, but I'm a little pleased with this one...

I suppose I should start with what's in there. The first effect is an UltraStoner fuzz on Pickdropper's MiniMuffin PCB, that goes into a Madbean Zero Point Dual Delay, followed by a Madbean StageFright (Maestro phaser) and finally into a 1776 Effects Rub-a-Dub reverb.

All of these effects stand alone or will work with any or all of the others in order to create some great psychedelic soundscapes. It's almost like they were made for each other.

I reckon this might be the best effect I've ever built...

Be gentle with the next bit, we're far better at building them than playing them. It's a demo of what it does rather than what we can do with it ;)

Run it at 720p for better audio.

Looks good and sounds good! Well done. The only effect that didn't get me is the fuzz, but I'm not really into fuzz anyway.

I think it is more beautiful inside, beautifully made. Love the name, space ritual was amongst my first albums.
Still enjoying my mini klon clone, juansolo delivers the goods.

Good thing you didn't have this together on Monday - I might never have left!  Only thing I wonder is will my size 44's have enough room to hit the switches individually (and also could you fit an expression pedal to control the phase depth or delay time  [or both] and what would I replace with this!

This guy...wow...

Very cool thing. All in one psychobox. The things you build amaze me every time.

Yup it's stompable still, the enclosure is pretty large (19x11x3.5 cm). I'd have to build it in a deeper box to get expression pedal jacks on there (there really is no more space in there), but that's not a prob. They're C1M pots however and most expression pedals are 100K so I might have to fettle something on the other end too... Possible though.

Remind me next time your over and I'll bring it down.

Good to see it finished :-) looks brill. I like the fact that you kept it compact and didn't go mental and add all the zero options. The next one ahould have a chorus and vibrato too ;-) What art is that? Oh, and you should post your builds here (and MRredux). I for one would like to see them even if it's a copy paste from your other forums.

The modulation didn't add anything to the effect so I didn't want to try and squeeze the full on ZeroPoint DLX in there. It looses that and the filtering options. Path is on as standard and you keep ghost which is perfect. The standard filtering on the DD is pretty good. Not as cool as the tape / analogue modes on the DLX, but again, for this it'd have been overkill.

With this effect I had a specific goal in mind, so didn't want any more in there really. It's a self contained stoner/psyche box. To get chorus and trem/vibe in there would need a way bigger enclosure. It's already at the limit tightness wise of what I can get in there and how stompable it is. Plus the more you get in there, the more issues you can cause for yourself.

The art was a Sci-Fi landscape wallpaper I found. It just fit the pedal nice.

As for posting the other stuff... I build a lot... I wouldn't want to spam the cr@p out of the forum and piss people off. But as you asked, I made this today ;)

Inspired by Ian Price of this forum so I can get away with it I think. It's a Klonpressor  :D

Ha - you built it! Great stuff! Nice name too, where did you get that from

I'm thinking of selling a few things on at the moment so may well be in touch (don't hold your breath though).

I really like that other pedal you've built too.

Not one that could power it, no ;)

Surely there is a way to get a sh*tload of smaller ones in there in every available free space which toghether make up the needed power.

Whatcha say, challenge accepted? (even if it is utterly impractical and just to prove a ridiculous point)

Oh the fun I could have with that.

I'd have no idea what to do with it, but it looks absolutely awesome, inside and out.

There is something very appealing about all those neatly made circuit boards, I always think they look like tiny little cities.

Very cool!

As an owner of an original Maestro PH1, how do you control the speed and on/off control of the phase? The 2 main points of attraction for me with the Maestro are how it ramps up and down like a Leslie/roatary effect when you switch speeds and also how it colours your tone when the PH1 is plugged in (yes, it uses a mains cable, not batteries) but the effect is 'off', (probably due to the input/output impedance of the pedal??).

Does your phaser have a sag/lag when you change the speed? There is also no depth control on the Maestro...
Title: Re: New DIY Pedal - Space Ritual
Post by: juansolo on October 13, 2013, 09:34:50 AM
It's a clone of this one:

rather than the Stage Phaser:

So doesn't have the speed control or ramping. Would be cool I admit.

It's also slightly different because of the ICs used. Rather than 5 individual ICs it's 3 pairs. So that allows the 5/6 stage switch, which adds some different flavour to it when thrown to 6.

Balls is depth ;) I just changed the name on the decal as a balls knob would have been confusing with that many controls.

Ahhh, yes. I forgot all about that one! (I played one not too long ago and liked it a lot, but it was not so much better than my Script 90 to warrant buying)

That is such a cool pedal. Even though it's not a silver machine with that decal, your skills as a pedal builder are clearly in the master of the universe category and this is an Electronic No 1 standard device. I should probably stop this now, it's clearly time we left this world today.

If you did add any further noises to it, you could call the combined ensemble the Orgone Accumulator...

If I'd have the space, there'd have been value in a tremolo/vibrato (it would have got a RunOffGroove Tri-Vibe), definitely. Tremming spacey sounds always sounds cool.

I think you should do it. I also have to add to the Juan love by saying that the Darkside you built, when combined with my DGT into the Cornell, produces EXACTLY the massive, slightly edgy, over driven tone I've always been after.

On a slightly more serious note, The Warrior on the Edge of Time art would make a great pedal backdrop:

Me too, it's been a while.  I'll skip the acid though, bad for the digestion....

I have a "Moorc--k catch-up" about once a decade or so, at which point I either find he's had a resurgence and written five or six new books, or he's disappeared back into semi-obscurity and most of his books have gone out of print.  It was nice when they did the 14-volume Tale of the Eternal Champion collection about 15 years ago.

It'd smart. I totted it up when someone else asked. Just in parts, before I've even lifted a finger there's over £100 there ( unlike most bootique pedals ;) ), then a lot of work. I'd be looking at £250 to do another, it'd take a while... Two of the boards are out of stock for a start and it took forever to get all the parts together for it.

I haven't ruled it out though, I think Cleggy is wanting one. So I might get in all the bits to do two.

I'm not going to launch into a NPD thread as this one covers everything but my Space Warrior pedal arrived this week and I love it.

(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3700/10778470524_b7c7cae8f7_b.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_atrocity/10778470524/)

I've had a little muck about with it and have scarcely scratched the surface of the sounds and textures it's capable of. I think I'm going to lose days to this pedal. I've been playing with a Virtual ANS synth too and I'm thinking a combination of it and some guitar through the Space Warrior could make some interesting (to me if no-one else) sounds. To the depths of space, avaunt!
