Back in May I posted that I was buying my first home. Well, our solicitor pretty much dragged his feet through out the entire process and eventually we got rid of him and the paper work then flew by.
Fast forward to today, the Wife and I get the keys tomorrow!
I'll be decorating after work then hopefully we'll have all our belongings moved in at the weekend.
Really looking forward to having our own space where I can write music without being disturbed by in-laws

F*ck yeah man! :band1:
Huge congrats on so many levels!
-
Congratulations. I hope you are very happy in your new home.
-
Nice, slightly jealous, couple more years until I can do that
-
Congratulations! Listening to the news recently, first time buyers seem to be a rare breed nowadays.
-
Congrats! I've just had my offer accepted for my first house and I'm pretty excited, can already tell it's gonna be a long and annoying process though
-
Gratz! I'll be unable to do this for a while, but I can't wait until the Mrs and I get the same feeling, heh. FREEDOM!
Nice work, mate.
-
Thanks for the nice words guys :D
Had a look around tonight and it's bigger than i remember. I've got a lot of prep to do before I start painting walls etc but it's all part of the fun I guess
I managed to convince the Mrs to have my amp either in the bedroom or living room, not that I'll be cranking it much anyway

And Phil!
You're absolutely right, first time buyers are having a very hard time. The only way around it is to go through a mortgage scheme with the bank but some of the deals aren't all that good. Ours is pretty decent for a couple who could only get a 10% deposit.
Considering private rental rates and a shortage of social housing I feel sorry for those who aren't able to buy. Definitely feels like us guys and girls are being bent over and buggered.

Steve, would you mind letting me know who you went with for the mortgage? My Mrs has an appointment to see a Santander advisor soon (she gets some kind of special deal as she works for the University), but if we don't like the options we are given, we'll be looking around a lot more over the coming weeks. Pretty sure we can only get a 10% deposit together, too.

Sure, check you pm's mate
-
Thanks dude! :)
-
Many congrats Steve - owning your own place is one of the best feelings in the world. Mine may be small, but it's my personal castle :D
Enjoy the DIY!
-
Congrats dude. I thought mine took a long time at 4 months!
-
Congratulations! :D
Don't kill yourself on the decorating... make sure you relax as well

A question for you lot if you don't mind me asking. What did you do with regards to applying for the mortgage? I've had my offer accepted (got the paperwork and stuff) and the vendors are actively looking for a place to move into so do I wait til I find out that they've actually had an offer accepted before I make any commitments? The estate agents are being quite pushy about me applying for the mortgage asap but I have a feeling this is just because they want the (non refundable) application fee asap! Only reason I've not applied yet is because I don't want to be stuck in a chain for ages and potentially miss out on another good property whilst I'm waiting around.

Well the thing is nothing is definite until contracts have been exchanged and a completion date has been set. The good thing is that if the seller pulls out of the deal after you've paid all fees/deposit they will have to pay you back as well as a little more for compensation.
We actually put an offer in on a place last year but unfortunately we couldn't get a mortgage due to an unforeseen problem peering its head. When we had that sorted out we looked again and made sure that when we found something, we really really liked it, enough to put a deposit down and go for it.
There will always been something else you like the look of but if you like something enough that you offer a huge amount of money to have, then it's the right decision and don't torture yourself about it.
I would get a mortgage approval sorted out right away and if it falls through, then don't worry there will be something else out there.

Congrats mate. Big step - well taken!
