Hello. I looked for a rules topic, to be sure i wasn't breaking any rules by mentioning second hand pickups, but i couldn't find any. I hope i am not breaking any rules, because i have a lot of respect for BK and its forum users.
Anyway, I have a guitar that i think would definately be perfect for a Aftermath, a Schecter Omen 6 Extreme, since it has a lot of low mids, but not so tight bass.
I need a medium high output pickup, bright, with a very tight, but not overwhelming bass, and a lack low mids, in order to play in C# Standard or Drop B while cutting through a mix without muddying it, but with tightness.
However, considering that i'm pretty tight on a budget, i just can not afford a new bare knuckle pickup. I tried a EMG HZ OC1-B and thought it was just perfect except it had a little bit too much output.
I search for bare knuckle pickups on ebay but can't find any. I live in Portugal and also can't find any Aftermath here. Can anyone suggest the best place to look for a used bridge aftermath?
Thank you,
Nate Cordova

Have a look on Ebay and on the forum in the seconds out-section.

BKPs hold their value pretty well so don't expect people to sell them for peanuts because they are used.
That said, I have been approached by someone who wanted to buy my A-Bomb simply because in certain countries import duties (in this case 80%) are charged on new items, but rarely on second-hand. In that case it made a lot of sense. However I think that your best chances of getting one are in the EU somewhere

Ebay is already the place i'm looking for, i just find it extremly weird to barely find any used BK there.
If i said there's about 5 or 6 bareknuckles on the the entire worldwide ebay, i would be telling the truth. And it's always like this, i check it on a somewhat weekly basis.
It's kind of a bummer.
I also looked for the selling/trading section on the forum but it doesnt seem to have any aftermaths right now.
Any other place besides ebay and the forum section?

EBAY and Forum are the only places...
May the god of perseverance be with you and you shall find a good deal. 8)

brazilian? :(

Yep.
Their customs charges seriously suck.
Here we don't pay any on imports under $1000 in value. I'm sure our new Prime Minister will probably do something about that though :x

As an alternative, i guess im going with a EMG OC1
Its a good pickup, sounds close to what i want. Its got a typical Emg 81 flavour but without the overwhelming low mids, its actually a rather thin sounding pickup, but with a very tight bass response though extremly bright.
Doesnt sound as natural or have the same medium high output as the aftermath, its actually the same output as a jb4. But its only 50 euros new.
However if i find a used aftermath on the 90 range ill definatly get it.

I have scored a few of my BKPs through Ebay and a few from forum members here. Patience is the key word.
As your requirement
medium high output pickup, bright, with a very tight, but not overwhelming bass, and a lack low mids, in order to play in C# Standard or Drop B while cutting through a mix without muddying it, but with tightness.
The Aftermath is a high output pickup. The one that fits your description a lot better would be the Emerald.

Thank you for your sugestion.
However, for me, i tend to class pickups like this:
Medium - High: Aftermath
High: JB4, EMG 81, A-Warpig, Miracle Man (?)
Very High: Super Distortion, C-Warpig
Ultra High: Invader, DiMarzio X2N
Do you think my output comparison is correct?
If so, i just want a pickup slightly less hot than a JB4. The EMG 81 actually has less output than a JB4 lol.
I play in C# on my band and sometimes drop tune to B and the Aftermath seems like it would maintain the clarity on each note adding a ultra cutting punch, instead of a "big" type of sound, that usually muds everything up.

I've just bought a Rebel Yell and you just described it down to a tee. I have it in an all-mahog SG, which is a very dark guitar with a blooming bass and low-mids aplenty. The Rebel Yell really tightened it up with a fantastic punch.
Rebel Yell - medium-high output, bright with focus on upper mids and highs, tight bass, cutting.
I must admit I have no experience with such low tunings, but considering how bright and tight it is, I don't see it failing. The other pickup recommended to me was a ceramic Nailbomb. That'll probably be a fair amount hotter though.

the aftermath is at least as hot as a JB or alnico warpig
maybe hotter

I tend to think that the Rebel Yell would be a great option too, but it seems unlikely that one will turn up cheap second-hand.

I fully agree on both counts having bought my RY set used ... one disadvantage of buying used is that the pickup(s) may not come in the version you want or need (e.g. long legs instead of short legs, covers etc. - my RY set has gold covers which I would have never ordered).

I've picked up a couple sets of used BKPs on www.thegearpage.net (http://www.thegearpage.net) under the buy/sell section. There's a set of Rebel Yells on there right now for about $265 I believe.

not weird at all. people like them and don't want to get rid of them. that speaks to the quality and the customer satisfaction.
