Title: Couriers in the UK for amp shipping help please!
Post by: Pierre on March 11, 2006, 07:11:49 PM
I just tried DHL's website (only courrier I know) and I have honestly NO CLUE as to how to proceed. I'd like to make my amp available for shipping but I don't know what to do really... So if you guys know any courriers, that'd be helpful please... Also if they can do door to door as I can't move the amp around at all...
Thanks guys :)

We use DHL a lot in work but theyre expensive.

I got my Plexi from ebay via a company called "Business Post". The seller charged me £25 and it came around lunchtime the day after being sent. I wasn't in the first day so instead of dumping it they kept it safe and redilevered free of charge the next day (without me having to ask them to). If I had to post an amp anywhere, that's what I'll use.

Oh, and they have really good online tracking.

In my experience it doesn't matter who you use, assume they're gonna drop and/or crush the package. Package anything you send so that it will withstand being dropped - if you can feel through the packaging you haven't used enough.

Parcel2Go are good - they have a flat rate based on weight-brackets.  They subcontract their work out to DHL but are alot cheaper than going directly through DHL.

I've always found Parcelforce to be fine but you're now constricted by the 20kg weight limit.

I've shipped amps to USA, Canada, Italy, France, Ireland - all over the place so shoot me some questions if you need to.

never had a problem with Omega\Securicor\Royal Mail or DHL.

just turned up to their depot and sent what i had, have sent amps + guitars never any problems.

BUT

DHL just charged me £29 to send a guitar (10kgs).

Wont be using them again, apparantly they have new pricing... a couple of months ago i sent a JCM800 head for £23!!! (24kg?).. pity the other depots near me closed and DHL is the only one now!! :E

I can't move the amp AT ALL. It would HAVE to be picked up by the delivery guys. And now I may even need to ship it to the US... I'll try those websites, thanks :)

for US shipping, you can't beat www.parcel2go.com - they will pickup the package as standard when you book it in on their website.
