just got a great deal on this guitar. its a 1995 midnight blue tele. i'll be changing out the bridge pickup for a piledriver as soon as it comes in. the neck pickup isnt bad at all though. also i'll be putting an aged pearl pickguard on it when that arrives. this is going to be my main guitar for the band i'm in. very excited!
-
Sick. But you are not going for the supercharged Piledriver neck pickup?
-
Ohhh nice. Canīt wait for a Piledriver review! Really not the set though?
-
I love the Piledriver in the bridge of my Tele.
Enjoy!!
-
Congratulations man!
Let me see:
Strat, check
Les Paul, check
Semi-hollow, check
Tele, check
Where is the SG? :D
-
Congrats! Nice colour too. I defnitely would take a calibatred Piledriver-set. I bet you'll exchange the neckpickup sooner or later, so why not now?
-
about the piledriver neck- maybe somewhere down the line. but right now i'm focusing on the bridge. the neck pickup actually seems to be pretty powerful compared to the bridge thats in there. so maybe it will work well. for the music i play with my band right now, i play mostly with the bridge anyway. not to say i will ONLY use the bridge though.
Congratulations man!

i've owned 2 sg's since i started playing and sold them both. i've had too many problems with them. tuning problems, which some suggest is due to the nut more than the tuning pegs. also, the stock pickups blow and its not worth buying something just to change so much. maybe a cheaper sg special or something somewhere down the line like agent oranges with the p90. thats a cool guitar but the 2 sg standards i had were a let down.
i did have an awesome explorer that i'd love to have again though..

Let us know how you get along with the tele (is this your first?).
My mate may be selling his MIM, and my neck MQ may need a new home soon, so I may have to join the tele owners brotherhood... Would be my first tele too.
As for the pickups, I will have to echo the other guys too: you know that you will always feel that something is missing until you replace the neck PU with a bkp :P

i've also owned an HH tele recently. i like this one more.

very nice :D

Yep that looks pretty good to me and I'll be interested in the results of the mods you have in mind.
-
Yeah you mainly play on the bridge like me ... I always find the neck pickup a bit of a waste of money, something that I only play at home when I am noodling around ... You will be happy with the Piledriver I'm sure!
I can also see you with a SG Junior in your future. They reissued the early (dogear) version in 2011 and there are still some around in shops if you look. I think you would love it. Shove a Nantucket in it and maybe a graphtech nut (Gibsons always go out of tune on the G string) and you'll love it.
Tuning problems are also a trade off for the thin '60s neck. My friend has the same problem with his Epi 50th anniversary SG. Whichever direction to tune in - high to low or low to high - you then need to go back and retune the first couple of strings you started on as the neck twists under tension. You have to tune every time you play and sometimes between songs. Weather affects a thin neck more than a thick one too, but they feel great to play :)

I have a MIM Tele that has a set of Country Boys in it. It tends to be my main gig guitar.
-
Lovely. Everyone, apart from Roo, needs a Tele. I had a Tele with a Piledriver bridge and a Mississippi Queen neck which is an interesting combination if you were looking for something different.

Would love to try those. Just need another tele to pop them in. Maybe I pick up a Classic Vibe sooner or later.
Just recorded recently with my tele and BG50's (old set) and after playing mainly my strats for quite some time it was a nice surprise.
-
Congrats! Teles are very nice guitars. Much more versatile than many think.
Rock it hard!

hmm sounds interesting for sure

That's a very cool looking Tele! My Thinline is a MIM as well ... no complaints! (Other than the typical ones about the new Wide Range pickups)

yeah i really see nothing wrong with the mexican made ones. they are brutes!
-
Yep, welcome to the tele-fold :D
Everyone needs at least one tele to keep them honest

my new piledriver should finally be in today. took over 3 weeks to get here, i assume because of the holidays. a little bummed it took so long when its usually less than half the wait. but i can't wait to install it
-
Looking forward to your review, and if possible, to how you compare it to your other bkps :)
I know how you feel about the waiting. Glad it's there. Are you installing it yourself?
-
I'll be doing a video comparing the piledriver, rebel yell, Stockholm and mule. Should be an informative video. And yes I'll be doing the install. Should be easy. I'm also flipping the control plate around
-
well apparently i spoke too soon and the mail service screwed me out of my new pickup for yet another day. im just not meant to get this thing in a timely fashion.
-
So... Has it arrived?
-
What a tease.
-
Yeah finally. But I've been at work all day and about to leave for band practice. I plan to work on this guitar tonight finally
