Title: Amazing P-90 equipped custom guitar
Post by: Dave Sloven on December 30, 2013, 11:45:47 PM
I saw Agents of Abhorrence play here in Adelaide on Sunday night.  They are doing an Australian tour and are originally from Melbourne, having been around a few years now, with a Toshi from Japanese grindcore band GATE on vocals for this tour.  They have toured quite a lot in Asia recently and played US gigs like the Maryland Death Fest.  Anyway I noticed this guitar when they played here in 2008 (supporting Insect Warfare's final tour) and had a proper look at it and a chat with Ben Andrews (guitar) after the show.  I held it in my hands and said 'I could never play this', because it is left-handed, but what an interesting guitar!  Apparently it was made by a friend of his in the USA, I think California, but I can't remember a business name.  It has a full aluminium neck, 25.5" (Fender) scale and custom P-90s.  He wasn't really sure what the specs were on the P-90s but it is an impressive guitar, if a little bright sounding for some people.  He runs it through splitters and loopers and has a Marshall and Ampeg running at once, the lower signal going through the SVT 8x10" bass setup.  There is no bass player in the band, just guitar, drums, vocals.

Anyway it's unusual enough that I thought I should share it.

Think that's made by Electrical Guitar Company? Who also make stuff for Brett Hinds and Buzz Osborne.

Gassed for one for ages!

The headstock and neck designs on that site look very much like Ben's guitar

I can only imagine how that aluminium neck adds brightness ... Hard to tell how much his setup was toning it down

Interesting. I wonder if the aluminium neck does cause tuningissues.

At one point he seemed to be bending the neck on purpose by pushing the headstock against the cabinet.  I'd say that it's pretty resilient

I remember those Travis Bean-guitars with alu-necks had tuningsproblems because yhey were very sensitive for changing temperatures. Maybe they found a solution for that.

I would bet it would be quite stable in different conditions like temperature and humidity.

Very cool. Would love to try one

That's an Electrical (ECG) guitar. I'd love one of them.
