i was always under the impression that the Blackhawk humbucker is the most "EMG" esque in passive form. check it out. its very popular

straight from the blackhawk page.

Quote
Black Hawk humbuckers were designed in response to players' demands for a pickup that embodied the transparency and output of an active, with the character and wide dynamic control of a passive, all without the hassle of batteries

I'm not sure.  I've never used them but I'm sure other people will chime in soon

Wonder how many people don't buy them because of the look.

The Dimarzio X2N looked the business. 8)

I have a Nailbomb set in the same model guitar (mine is a 2006 though) and it kicks butt.  Avoid the Warpigs, they sound really dark in it.  I suspect the Miracle Man set would be similar.  You might find that the Painkiller, Aftermath, or Rebel Yell is a good option.  I would go for something with more mids and less bass. The Explorer produces a lot of bass frequencies acoustically.

I had the 85n/81b set for a while (still have the 81) and would suggest the Miracle Man set. I don't have direct experience with it though.

What I do know is that the 81 is not a middy pickup at all, and all the clips that I've heard from the MM would match (and surpass) it.

The 85 is a trickier one. Alnico, high output, and can overpower the 81. Round highs, much more mids and especially lows that the 81. Can sound a bit muddy on the neck, but great for leads. The neck MM's description is not a million miles away from it.

Also, given the Miracle Man's designation and Wylde's use of 85+81, I think it may be the closest, that is my vote.

I would also recommend a covered pickup.  For some reason the uncovered Warpigs used to tilt at odd angles in the pickup rings.  With covers they fit tighter and don't tend to tilt, instead following the angle of the pickup ring closely.

Yep, but how about a BKP that looked like the X2N.

That was my point. Probably sell a boatload....

The two most obvious options for what you're after is either Black Hawk or Miracle Man.

The Holydiver is one of my favourite pickups but it's nothing like an EMG 81/85 set. The Miracle Man would give you some of the characteristics of the Holydiver (smooth, warm, organic) but with a bigger bottom end, more screaming highs and more tightness.

When I asked on here about putting a Miracle Man in the same model of guitar people said it would be too dark, but then I went and got a Warpig, which is probably even darker, although not as dark as the Mighty Mite Motherbucker that it replaced.  I would tend toward a brighter pickup than a Miracle Man.  You could afford to go a slightly darker than the A-Bomb though, maybe a C-Bomb.  The Miracle Man might be fine, but it's a bit of a judgement call.  A Painkiller was recommended by someone in my original thread
