I bought the Classic 50s, and after toying with the ideia of routing it for my Mississippi Queen, I decided it was too nice to hack and instead to get another guitar for that.
So, I bought my second Telecaster in less than 2 weeks.
Started looking into cheap Teles on the local classifieds. I found this J5 and jumped on it on the same day.
Managed to buy it for 220 (new = 450) still with plastic on the pickguard and what look like original strings. The owner simply decided that he didn't have the time to learn guitar after all.
How do I like it?
It's great. Feels like a mix between a LP and a tele, with the 12'' radius and upper toggle switch. It's a bit lighter than the classic.
I love the Tele variety I have now:
Classic 50s
- Ash
- Maple fingerboard
- Single coils
- Vintage-type bridge
- Traditional controls
- 7,25'' radius fingerboard
J5 Squier
- Alder
- Rosewood fingerboard
- Humbuckers
- Modern-type bridge
- Different controls
- 12'' radius
I'm pretty happy :D

Thats a result.
-
Nice. All bases of Teledom covered.
-
I like it. The control plate's not right, but I could live with it.
-
Congrats, nice tele! The radiusses differ quite a lot. Something I would have to get used to when swapping those tele's on stage.
-
I swear to god if you drag me into getting a tele...well push me over the edge really. You people need to stop getting teles, it just fules my fire and I canīt afford that! DAMN YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL GUITARS!
So in short congrats and a friendly fu =)

Thanks everyone :)

They do! Curiously, I like them both more than the middle ground 9,5. I don't gig anymore, so swapping guitars is not a problem. The Classic's neck feels very similar to my Japanese strat copy's neck, and the J5's neck feels more like my LP's. Being black with double white binding also adds a Je-ne-se-quoi of LP custom from the player's point of view

You know you need one :P Seriously, the Squier Classic Vibe line are said to be VERY good and they won't break you bank.
On a side note, to avoid being back at owning 8 guitars, I decided to gift my plywood strat copy with EMGs 60/81 to my friend who sold me the Classic 50s tele. He was very happy, and is loving it and even using it to track his band's album instead of his Gibson! That made my day.

And for your viewing pleasure (because I like photos :D ) here is a pic of me with the LP back in 2003

Just had a look. Around 360 Euros for one. Not too bad. I would want to BKP it too though, when that is added I am up to like 540 Euros. For a student that is kind of a lot still.
Plus I also kinda want a guitar for my homeless AM set (not to speak of the homeless MQ neck and Mule neck), which would cost me at least that too. Plus I kinda just ordered 3 pickups...xD
So my tele planning will probably have to wait a bit I am afraid.
Until then you must enjoy for the both of us....

I bought a CV Custom tele for my nephew and I must admit that the stockpickups are very decent. Some of the hardware is a bit cheap, like the outputplug, but replacing that won't break the bank.

A humbucker Tele with a 12" radius ... sounds tempting!
What would this sound like with an A-Pig and matching neck pickup? I've always thought Teles feel quite heavy, but is this one dark? If not it might work well with my spare set of Warpigs. The only thing I dislike about Teles is the neck, but this one seems to be a better shape for me
Ah, but the leg length and pole spacing would probably be wrong ... maybe I will just stick to my plan of putting them in a third SG
-
Agent Orange, keep in mind that this is alder body with a maple neck, so it may work just great! It's not light, but lighter than the ash Classic 50s.
Also, keep in mind that as it comes there is no tome control, but independent volumes per pickup.
Also, if you want different colors and controls, check out the Jim Root squier tele. It's also 12'' radius and quality stuff, it's downside it's the stock pickups. The white one with black pickguard is gorgeous IMO.
-
Nice Teles!
The Tele bug is a great bug :D

Thanks, dvorak :)

Scratch that, the JR tele is mahogany.

nice :D

Yeah, it all sounds good, except for the fact that my pickups are 50mm long leg. I suspect I need 53mm, and possibly short leg.

I will let you know how much routing was needed for fitting my neck MQ (long leg).
The bridge PU would look better with 53mm spacing, yes.

I would join the party and show mine..... but it would just be a big pile of necks and bodies and pickups and things. :|
-
Oh Jonathan, you especially should know why I canīt right now. If I continue my diet (saves money) and my personal life does not change for the better, maybe, just maybe I can get one of those Squier Classic Vibes and at one point get a Boss set for it.
The thing YOU have done dear Jonathan is to also awaken a GAS for a Cabronita...thanks. Now my immediate GAS list is: Squier Classic Vibe Tele, Cabronita Tele, and a Hagstrom Viking Baritone. F*ck.

And another.

Ok, here is mine (Country Boys)

Oh, I can't fight it any more.
This is an old (and bad) picture. I now only have one of these three, made from the neck of the one on the left and the body of the one on the right.

And another.

Sob. Should never have sold that Esquire.

All of these Teles look great!

So I've done the first mod to my telecaster. For reference, before:

I was pretty set on putting the Mississippi Queen neck on this guitar and install the single coil version of the same bridge with a Piledriver.
Unfortunately, I ended up noticing that this humbucker bridge (the the humbucker routing under it) is wider than regular Tele bridges :( back to square one.
I do enjoy playing metal on this guitar, I spent a couple hours last evening playing Rammstein, Breaking Benjamin, Metallica and Iron Maiden with it. The stock pickups are like Cold Sweats tonewise, but lack all of the string separation and definition.

Whatever happened to Roo..?
:D

Whatever happened to Roo..?
:D
Well, he's doing quite well for himself, making good money playing tele in a Paul McCartney tribute band... After all the stuff he's said on here, he's kinda too ashamed to come back now...

Sorry to resurrect this thread from the dead, but did you ever ft that long leg pickup to your Tele?
-
I did not, sorry. I had my MQ modded (shortened legs), but ended up putting an Alnico II paf-style neck humbucker from a diferent brand. So, routing was done, but not that deep. Cheers
