Title: Winter NAMM 2014
Post by: Kiichi on January 23, 2014, 05:31:55 PM
Alright, so I´ll just be the one who starts this one this time.

What have you seen that you like? What is so stupid it is worth pointing out? Basecally everything NAMM!

Personally I actually find myself interested in the new Ernie Ball strings, the bronce aluminium ones designed with Andy Mckee. Not a Balls fan at all, but I love Andy Mckee and they could be different.

For the rest I have to catch up again.

Cheers!

There's lots of cool stuff popping up on my FB news feed from Electrical Guitar Company, Morgan, JHS Pedals, EQDevices but nothing in particular. The RG9 string looks daft.

Those Aristides are those carbon or something ones, right? I am not sure about the look of them, kinda seem pretty 80s for me, and not in the cool over the top way....

That Orange amp looks very interesting. I have Orange Dual Terror myself, just wondering how that Channel A will sound like. Getting excited

Dual Darks definitely look cool.. I'd like a lower wattage option. 25/50 is a bit loud to be usable at home for me.

I'm intrigued by the Line 6 Amp/Bluetooth speaker thing.. Never been tempted by Line 6 stuff before, but I might need to try this out!.. The only trouble with these 'all in one' solutions is, they are never quite good enough to get rid of all the other shite so You just end up with another 'thing'..!!

Blackstar ID:Core for cheap, versatile practice amps:

http://www.andertons.co.uk/blog/guitars/blackstar-announce-id-core-compact-amps (http://www.andertons.co.uk/blog/guitars/blackstar-announce-id-core-compact-amps)

On a more pricey tip, the missus is getting a new MacBook Pro soon, so I'm looking at stuff like this:

http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/namm-2014-m-audio-announces-m-track-eight-592019 (http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/namm-2014-m-audio-announces-m-track-eight-592019)

Could potentially record a whole band with minimal equipment.. a bunch of mikes, obviously!

Aaaaaand... a new  bong is always good!!  PDT_030 :

I'm really stoked about the PRS SE Zach Myers semi hollow. Don't know who the dude is, but the guitar looks outstanding  8)

I like that colour on the PRS Zach Myers. Looks sharper than the Friedman model.

New Reverend-models are a little twist on the current line. Nothing spectacular

For the handwired addicted: New Marshalls. Saw also Satriani has a signature JVM410.

Some of interesting pedals, b.e. EHX Slammi

Overall I didn't anything see much stuff that made my heart beat faster.

the dual dark terror is calling my name... the dark terror blew me away when i tried it. just needed more power. depending on the price, i may try to convince my friend to buy my 5150 so i can get one of these haha

I haven't seen anything yet to get the GAS going.... maybe some Fender Custom Shop stuff, but in that case it's individual, one-of-a-kind guitars which are of interest, not "what's new this year".

Those weird "personality cards" that "rewire" the new Delux Strat+ just seem like change for change's sake and I bet they don't stick around long.

Shame coz it's a nice guitar otherwise..  :?

just watched the video.  it is an interesting idea, but i agree, it'll probably quietly disappear after a year or two.

like the fender guy, i never learnt to "sodder" :)

i'm willing to bet at least $1500
so around 900£, nearly twice as much as Dual Terror. Just wait `till Orange confirm it, but I presume that it could be around it anyway.

Looks like Mayones have a new model: like a slightly more aggressive Regius. Looks a little like Daemoness' Cimmarian, but there's only a partial picture of it on Facebook. I've been considering a Mayones for a while now: looking forward to Mussikmesse.

What do the valve-heads among you make of this!?

http://m.musicradar.com/news/guitars/namm-2014-black-widow-unveils-tube-based-modelling-preamp-592108 (http://m.musicradar.com/news/guitars/namm-2014-black-widow-unveils-tube-based-modelling-preamp-592108)

An all analogue valve based modelling amp! Could be a tweaker's dream...or nightmare!?  Not actually in production yet. They are still looking for funding, by the looks of it ,so it may never even come out. Cool & crazy idea.. I would worry about reliability & tube biasing & it justbeing fiddly as f**k!

Looking at the pictures from the Ibanez stand (nothing for me there....), several guitars this year seem to have BKPs (at least they look like BKPs):

Ah, it his signature Dimarzios. They're covered pickups with two rows of hex-bolts showing through, like Bareknuckles. Still, there was a camo set in the S in #13 and a battle-worn black set in the RGD in #23; don't think anyone else is doing those, right?

The new Reverend Reeves Gabrels signature model. It seems quite cool to me, but I'm not totally sold on the Burns-like look.

From what I've seen, the new Reverend-models are little twists on the existing range.

One new guitar got my heart pumping fast, but is completly out of my price range (even if I hadn't already bought 2 guitars this year). It's the Fender CS Nile Rodgers strat. I didn't even knew the guy, but had to go do some googling after I've seen the guitar.

As for the personality cards, I think they are brilliant.
I don't know why they are being so low profile about it. The success of it will IMO be defined by the diversity of the cards, and the fact that they release (or don't) a more accessible MIM guitar with it.

I think it,s great, for example, for the session guitarist who can only take one guitar but could use a couple different configurations. Also, there is place for a third-party market for the cards.

I'm pretty shure Bob Balch of Fu Manchu playes the Reverend Sensei model and has a sig one comming out in a brown color with railhammer pickups.

Yeah.

They're still a young company with only 3 guitar models (first has been released in 2011). I think they have lots of potential...
