Title: Gordon Smith guitars
Post by: maliciousteve on March 15, 2006, 01:59:33 PM
I played on a Gordon Smith Graduate Slimline 60 the other day and was totally shocked by it. The sustain it had was unbelieveable even through a little AVT20 combo. It was pretty easy to play on too and the pickups sounded tasty. It only cost £299 as well. What do you guys think of them?

I have a Gordon Smith Graduate 60 that I had built in rememberance of my Grandad that died 18months ago.

It took 3 bridge pickups, and 2 neck pickup changes before I was happy with the plugged in sound of the guitar, but now I love it :)

I really enjoy playing mine since it's had Bareknuckles in it :) It always played well, and sounded ok before, but my Gibson LP was always my number 1 guitar.

But since getting Bareknuckles in it, my Gibson is put to shame and I NEED some Mules in it so it'll get played asmuch as my Gordon Smith does :)

:D Gordon Smith guitars are very very highly rated there`s quite a few people here on the boards that play`em, for my part i`ve only ever played them at LGS & local guitar shops but i must say i was very impressed, i didn`t think they sounded great but they played really really well. Do what the Gordon Smith players here do stick a kick ass set of BK`s in `em

I take it that the Graduate 60 slimline is 2nd hand, judging by the price you`ve quoted sounds like a bargain to me go for it !!

A Gordon Smtih  for the price of a Epiphone LP copy... no contest really is it !!!

 :D  8)

Yeah it's second hand. Only has a few dents on the back of the guitar. I'm not sure if i'll go for it because i need to get money together for driving lessons etc

That is a cheap price for that guitar. Second-hand GS2's (slab body, matt finish) normally go for around that on Ebay.

Gordon Smiths are great, I've got a Gypsy Semi, had it refretted with 6000 dunlop wire and now it rocks!

I think they use nitro finish as well, their wood choice can be odd on some guitars but they sound great, better with a set of BKPs though!

Nope.

He left us all some money in his will, and I wanted to get something to remember him by. Something that i'd keep forever, and something that I was interested in.

What better way than a guitar :)

I'm really pleased with mine. I got GS to fit BKP's as standard. There should be some photos on this board of mine on a previous thread - matt black with natural binding and distressed pickups.

£299 is a bargain. You would need to pay another £400 on top for a new one, so buy it while you have the cash.

I've got an SG1 and a GS2, plus I've had an extended load of my mate's GS2 Deluxe.  I've also played a bunch of other Gordon Smiths in guiatr shops.

They might not always be finished perfectly, so therefore a little rough around the edges, but they ALL rock (no exceptions) and I love 'em  :D
