Hello all,
I am wanting to a new bridge pup to swap out for the burst bucker 3 that is in there at the moment.
I do quite like the BB3, but its very much on the bright side and lacks 'body'
This could be the fact that my BFG is chambered or it could be the pickup. I'm not sure.
I like the looks of the Mule and the Black dog.
I play mainly hard rock through a Marshall (bonamassa, slash along those lines). I never play metal.
Having nice cleans will be a bonus but mainly Im interested in warming/thickening the tone up somewhat.
I have a duncan '59 in my Epi solid body and I love it. But it isnt as airy or complex as the Alnico II BB3 that I have in the BFG. Especially noticable when doing high bluesy bends / soloing (which 80% of my playing consists of)
Hopefully I have supplied enough info for what I am looking for! thanks for reading

definitely the mule. its probably not as hot as the burstbucker 3 but its certainly on the warm side.

Mules could be the ticket, however the bridge has snap and punch, with the topend being present in a pleasant way, so not shrill. It's a full sounding pickup with a nice crispiness. If you're afraid the Mule will be too bright, you could think about a Abraxas/Mule-neck combo. The Abraxas has more compression, mids and less highs.

Abraxas would do it - would have at least as much power than the BB3 and would warm the guitar nicely.
EDIT - Telerocker was faster :)

thanks for the replies guys!
One thing I forgot to mention is that i have a very thick and dirty P90 in the neck.
Will go listen to some Abraxas sound clips

I will slow down a bit... :)

had a good listen to the clips on here for the Abraxas, Mule and BD.
I liked the fatness of the Abraxas but I like the articulation of the Mule. The BD seems somewhere in the middle.
Bah.. why cant it be easy?!
Is the BD worth considering for a chambered bright LP?

Abraxas all the way. Pinch middy though

The BD sounds less PAF and more contemporary in the vintage(hot)-range. I wouldn't go that route. If articulation is your first wish, then go Mules and set the bridge not too high. The Abraxas has Mule-flavour, it's just not as open as the Mule. That would be asking a little much from an overwound, hotrodded Mule.

This. The Abraxas will do a way better Slash than the Black Dog.

Thanks for the advice guys, I went ahead and ordered an Abraxas!

Good choice, especially since you said you have a powerful P90 in the neck spot.
Please let us know how it turns out.
Cheers Stephan

The Abraxas will certainly tame the topend and provide the mids the guitar apparently needs. I think you made a good choice and like Stephan says, it will balance nice with the neck-p90.
