I'll be teaching this song in a few weeks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37o1m0MTHf8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37o1m0MTHf8)
I have a Les Paul, a Telecaster and a Strat to choose from.
I think the guys in the band use ES-335s and Ibanez signatures, not sure which of my 3 axes is the closest match.
Any advice welcome!

I suggest telling him not to learn that and learn some YOB or High on Fire riffs instead. Well, you did say any suggestions welcome 8)

Is this the band who just had a number one album? It's not my kind of thing but well done them.
Sorry I can't suggest anything about the guitars.
-
That's definitely work for a telecaster, at least the chimey and the rhythm parts. But if you play with toneknob and use a nice tubeamp , maybe with the help of an OD-pedal, you can play the solo's with a tele too.

Yes it is, they're more of the modern rock bands that are about, youthful and bright! Lol.

I thought Tele originally as a humbucker might drive the amp too hard. But it might be a bit bright with the top end?

Use the toneknob - a very useful knob on a tele - to tailor the sound.

I agree, the Tele, no doubt. The Les Paul probably won't have that sparkle and the strat may come close on the b+m position but the tele will do it better.
-
Thanks for the replies guys, going with the tele at the moment, though tempted by the strat.

Try both and see what works best.

Tele sounded pretty cool when teaching it yesterday, backed off the gain and levelled up the bass and treble and got a pretty crunchy sound going on, didn't bother with the strat. The distortion came from the way I hit the guitar though.
This is next to teach:

The guy playing the riff uses an Ibanez road something signature, I think I can get a similar sound from my strat on either bridge or bridge/middle combined. Though the tele might cut through more?
