Title: Richie Sambora
Post by: CVNelson45 on February 11, 2014, 03:35:17 AM
Ok, so I have fallen in love w/ BKP, I am currently rocking a Charvel So Cal w/ a Holy diver Bridge, and it can nail most of the 80s tones I'm looking for. I am purchasing an LTD EC401 soon, Mahogany body/set neck, rosewood fingerboard. I would like to get as close to Richie Sambora's tone from In and Out of Love as possible. What should I be looking at due to the mahogany body? I'm leaning towards the Rebel Yell or Cold Sweat, opinions?

That's more a Rebel Yell than a Cold Sweat. Actually I would say a Holydiver would get you closest.

Cheers Stephan

Damn.......i hate it when the right choice is a BKP that you already have.  :P

well, we can discuss a bit more ;)

i think your ESP is all mahogany, no maple cap? it could be the holy diver would be too dark.

the cold sweat is confirmed working well in all mahogany guitars.. the rebel yell i have no knowledge.

the tone in the clip sounds like a high-wound alnico 5 though. so perhaps the rebel yell would be the right choice.

I can't listen to a clip and say what pickup would give that sound, but when I had a Rebel Yell - in a thin-bodied, all mahogany Les Paul - I always felt it was well suited to an '80s, hair metal type of tone.

I reckon gwEm is thinking along the right lines.

Well the RY is know to be able to breathe life into the dark and dull guitars and can cut through most of them with authority and definition. RY in LP = you can hardly loose.

This really sounds like something the Rebel Yell really can pull of niiiiicely.

Ha - I was at the gig that the video clip opens with (loved Bon Jovi back then)
In a mahogany guitar - either a Cold sweat or rebel Yell....although an Abraxas will be nice too in the right guitar.

This is early 80s so I think these will work better than Holy Diver and Miracle Man

As usual I'm having trouble with YouTube.... it's not the Dominion Theatre gig is it?

The Cold Sweat has more 'booty' than a Rebel Yell.

It's the official video for In and Out of Love which shows the Dominion etc , but doesn't show the gig. Was a great gig though!
