Title: Suggestions for ESP MII neck through?
Post by: Defi on February 14, 2014, 06:43:43 PM
Hey there. I just bought a new guitar and I don't get along with the EMGs. It's got maple neck through, alder wings, rosewood board. I have previously owned a maple neck through with mahogany wings and used an A-bomb and loved it. It was very versatile pretty much.

This guitar I'm not so interested in versatility. This guitar is for this:

(just click anywhere there isn't a minute of bad music on this album)

and this:

sort of deal.

What would you put in? Painkillers? pigs? Cbomb? top three choices right now

Of your 3 original choices, the Painkiller will be tight bass with extra mids, the Warpig will have biggest mids of all and the Nailbomb is the balanced pup. Those 3 are fairly different to each other.

That's good I can't think of a bigger waste of time than comparing apples to apples. Any of them would work I'm sure.

Btw shouldn't painkillers be really sedated and loose?

K but really. Just interested in hearing what you would pick for regular tuned non djent metal where note definition is not the Holy grail but rather attitude or.. Guitars blend to make a sound deal. I'm not into riffs in the perceived use of the word. What will probably happen is I'll just grab the best deal I can find cause I want to try something new anyway.

I'd probably go for something ceramic.  Painkiller, Cbomb, Miracle Man, or Cpig

I don't think the PK would be too middy for the Emperor but maybe for the Nightbringer

Another possibility would be an Abomb if you like a lot of mids.

are ceramics easier to get pinch harmonics out of in general?

again, to reference night$%&#ingbringer, I have never been into the whole pinch squeal thing but here i am:

When I read the words that describe alnico vs ceramic I always like the "sounds" of alnico more, so I have always bought alnico pickups. I believe the PRS HFS is ceramic and that's the last ceramic pickup I had haha. I liked it, but really just trying to find another set of BKP to wow me because I have had two sets of A-bombs from them and I will be getting another set in a future guitar.

I have three guitars with BKPs, an SG Standard with a Cold Sweat set (ceramic bridge), a SG Junior with a Stockholm bridge (alnico, like all BKP P-90s), and an Explorer with a Nailbomb set (alnico bridge).

It is the two alnico guitars that I use in the band where I do the pick harmonics.  One has a wraptail (the Junior) and the other a TOM (the Explorer). Pretty easy  to get them with both if you have a small, hard pick (I use a Jazz III) and the right technique.

I can probably get them from the Cold Sweat guitar too; it's just that I never use that guitar for that kind of music

$%&# it then, alnico warpigs it is! I have always wanted to try them as I have heard many times they are something unique, and that is what i want.
