Title: Humbucker relentless ground hum?
Post by: cloudkeeping on February 17, 2014, 02:38:10 AM
Hey everyone!

I recently installed a juggernaut bridge into my Stephen carpenter 7 string tele and I cannot for the life of me get rid of the ground hum.

I do not have a neck pickup connected (just the stock emg sitting there).  All the connections are solid and I've combed over all the solder joints multiple times with a friend.  As of right now I have it only hooked up to the volume pot for simplicity and I still catch hum.  There's still hum even when I run a wire to the bridge or if I ground to myself.

The only hum free times are when I'm on a purely clean channel, even slight overdrive gives me some.

Could this be a problem with the pickup itself?

In general with EMGs the bridge is not grounded. Ground your bridge.

Hi. OK so you've tried earthing the bridge and no difference. Are you getting the same hum (I assume 50/60 Hz mains hum depending on your location) on all pickups or just your new Jugg? Similarly do you get the same hum when using different amps or when connected to a different mains supply? Another question to help track down the source  of your problem - does your Jugg have 4 conductor wiring or 2, if 4 then how have you got it wired?
