Title: Slugs and bolts replacement - Painkiller
Post by: jorgercrosa on February 18, 2014, 01:04:11 AM
Hi there, folks!

It's been a while since I've come here for some bkp wisdom, so I have to ask you guys the following:

I have a Painkiller bridge and a spare Aftermath cover which I removed from a pickup I've traded (the guy wanted open coils and I wanted the cover).

I am thinking about removing the slugs from the Painkiller and replacing them with a second row of bolts, so I can use my former Aftermath cover. Do you guys think it would work? Has anyone tried something like that? How do you think it will affect the sound?

Thanks!

J.

Not sure if that will work. I mailed BKP about bolts on the Cold Sweat and it was a no go.
But best place to ask is direct to BKP.

I see... The thing is I bother Tim too much with my crazy ideas, so I thought about checking with the guys at the forum before that.

What was the issue with the Cold Sweat?

The response from BKP was:

Hi Darren,

On a covered humbucker, yes. But for open coil we can't I'm afraid. The Cold Sweat uses one screw coil and one slug coil, so the silver looking slugs will not look right next to the gold bolts - it will not look good at all.

Kind Regards,

Ben

Thanks, Darren!

It looks like the matter was purely aesthetic. Or not.

And the plot thickens...

Opinions, anyone?

IMHO that's a question that only the guys at BKP can answer. The answer to a similar - or even the same -question raised months ago is of limited value since they may have decided to change their position since then.

Cheers Stephan

It was a question i asked BKP directly about 4 weeks ago or so.
