Title: Satch Head
Post by: Dakine on March 16, 2006, 04:38:34 PM
LOL, funny title huh.
Anyway, been watching the video podcasts on Satriani's site about new album.
He has his sig. head in background and it seem's to light up. Is this a mod or do they do that anyway (not tube glow btw). It actually looks darn cool (good amps anyway I reckon).
Love what have heard of album too. May have to go get it in a minute. Oh, yeah, can't get it in UK yet can ya, :P , sorry. I feel like cr@p, major allergies (took 6 years here but finally got me) allergy capitol of world I reckon, so HAS to be a plus to living here. Goodness knows why they do release dates like this!
Found out he and Eric Johnson are playing outdoor event 10mins away on April 29th too. Darn, would be cool. Money tight and don't think missus will be into it either. Oh well.
Motley Crue playing (in Houston) to, reschedueld due to Hurricane. Darn, darn, concert time and sooooo busy/broke lol.

Well this clears it up abit. Can see the tubes glow (nice) but cannot work out the blue glow yet (from podcast).

hi dude,

he has lights that glow up when it 'hears' loud noise.

so when u play a chord it lights up, if you let it ring, as the chord fades so do the lights damn cool mod i think, ive done something like it before but not to an amp!

hope this clears up you question, but doubt it did anything to your allergies.

Rob

P.S. buy his new album its amazing highly recommended, im listening to it right now

Cool
from the vid I posted I see that the tubes are easily visible but wondered about the blue light.
Need a combo really (when move back) anyway.
But, think will have to A/B an Engl and a JSX now.
Had Peavey bass amps and they were good stuff.

The JSX isn't a tone monster.....very muddy midrange. I really wanted to like it, to the point of having cash ready, but when I played one I was really disappointed!

HJM, did you try the head or the combo?
Reports I have read seem to favor the combo.
Am still leaning towards an Engl though (if nothing else it's German and they are NOT known for bad engineering ;)).

FWIW, engls are far superior to the jsx, IMO.

That's just me though- i'm with hayden. (i didn't get to crank it, though)

EDIT: sambo- isn't that just a clock?

I reckon German engineering will be hard to beat too.
Still we all have our "funny five minutes" when we wonder LOL
Listening to new Satch album is prob. to blame LOL

I've heard retubing the Satch head can really improve the sound. Haven't heard one myself.

It was the head  to be fair - I've not come across a combo to try!

I found the Peavey Jsx to be inbetween a Mesa Boogie Dual rect and a Peavey 5150 but not as good as either, closer to the Mesa.

Its a good amp but when i tried it it wasnt close to as good as the mesa or the 5150.. im sure it would sound in place and really good on record i just think that theres nothing wow about the amp, Peavey sell the 6505 and Valveking for cheaper and i feel they are both vastly better sounding amps.

It was kinda fat but muddy sounding, it had a shite load of gain, i find it hard to beleive that satriani would willingly use this amp with his name on it.

Just my 2p as it were.
