well i just ordered my vhII set for my LP custom so that leaves me with one guitar, an alder fender strat hardtail (maple/ rosewood neck), to give some bare knuckles to. right now it has a seymour duncan invader in it, which is a tad dark, and a tad bassy, which is fine but compared to those BK's it has no clarity whatsoever. my other strats have a Stockholm and a Juggernaut. so i want something different that will work well. the stockholm worked well in this guitar, before i swapped it to my black strat. and i also tried an Abomb which did NOT work very well. i've seen videos that compare the invader to the warpig but i dont know if i want something that crazy. i've been looking at the miracle man, and holy diver. i've also liked the idea of a crawler or blackhawk . but i'm willing to consider any humbucker or maybe a different HBS P90 as long as it would suit the woods of this guitar. i typically play hard punk/pop punk blink 182 type stuff with this guitar but the stockholm handles those well. i just need it to be versatile enough to handle different aspects of rock. i'm really leaning towards the holy diver since i love those 80s tones. also, i'm just looking for a bridge pickup. i like my strats simplistic!
thoughts? suggestions?

The Holy Diver will do fine in a hardtail strat. It's tighter than the Crawler, but has a little less bass. With your amps and cabs you can dial in enough bass, so that's not really an issue I think.
-
hmm i guess i'm wondering if the HD will be too similar to the jugg or stockholm. so it may be better to try something dark.
-
Abraxas set?
-
well i'm looking for a bridge only but thats an option i could go for... more of a classic rock vibe since the other strats have metal and hardrock covered
-
You need variety dude. Either filthy death metal or a vintage vibe. :P
So either Warpig or Abraxas/HD/Crawler.
-
yeah i was actually thinking about the crawler too. the crawler was one of the first BKs i ever heard and i've heard it handle anything to metal crunch, to classic rock/blues very easily so that may be the way to go.
-
Dude, you should add up the amount of cash you have spent on BKP recently. You might have a problem.
-
i've always had a problem. thats nothing new. besides i dont plan on doing this for a while. just trying to get an idea and think about it for a while
-
I have made plans before kid...since i started I went through around ten plans or more...I really donīt wanne count anymore. Now I have 6 (!) BKPs lying around waiting to be fitted (two are about to to be fair). And let us not get started on guitars and other instruments. When my plans started I had three and that felt big. Now...well let us wait until the one that is on the way and then I will do a family pic or two.
Does my skill allow for half the guitars I have? If put in front of a jury I would be beaten to death with .009 strings (I do not like em).
And yes, i call you kid although you likely are older than me. At least you have a beard groth I wish for. xD
So stop lying to your self. You will get more BKPs. You will likely buy more guitar so you can put BKPs in them. Admit it. Give up. Join us.
-
Haha I definitely won't buy more bk's than I have guitars. I almost cringe having the 7 I have new because I know I'm in excess. But it's a curse.
And I'm 24. Growing beards is my business
-
I use BKPs to play D-beat. Now THAT'S overkill!
I still tend to think you will be happy with an Abraxas.
-
I think what your missing are single coils. Why not get a new pickguard with three nice BKP singles? You could even swap pickguards between guitars if you don't want it to be the hardtail one.
-
Sinner set. With baseplates.
-
Sinners are interesting, I don't know if he really wants it that hot.
-
They are certainly unique.
They might be a bit close though to the Piledriver in some ways, i.e., in terms of application.
I see those two pickups as the BKPs best suited to the old school Norwegian black metal sound, but I guess they can play various metal styles. But both seem very metal oriented
-
I don't mind single coils buy I hate the typical 3 single coil strat deal because the middle pickup always gets In the way of my strumming. Plus ive never liked the sound of a middle pickup. I am leaning towards the crawler overall I'd say
-
I wonder if they still have any of the autographed Crawlers left?
-
I think the Crawler would be a good measure for variety in your arsenal - more vintage but still hot.
Cheers Stephan

My thoughts exactly. Mississippi queen could be a nice too

Having just read darkbluemurder's review, I'm going to throw Black Dog into the ring. It was also recommended to me by Ben when I asked about something different for my Mustang, so seems to perform well in Fender guitars.
-
Hmm I wouldn't expect a black dog in a strat working well but I suppose it's a possibility. I've never really looked at that pickup much

I must admit I rarely use the middlesinglecoil alone. Nearly always for splitted sounds together with neck-sc or splitted humbucker. I don't have a problem with strumming on a strat. Maybe something one has to get used to.
The Crawler does a great job in strats. It's mediumhot I'd say. My VHII is nearly as loud.

how does the crawler split? i could do that and mix it up a little bit. a little more versatile. i would do a double crawler but i'd have to rout the wood of the body to fit it.

Best BKP splits. Period. No other PU I have heard comes as close to sounding like an actualy SC.
-
yeah i thought i heard it was a good one for that. here is the guitar in question by the way, i'm thinking of doin a zebra with blue/black. it would look pretty cool.

It's pretty good hey.
