We were thinking of adding a new kind of guitar set-up service aimed at those about to sell their guitar, but who wanted to sell them on with a clean bill of health and supply a disc of 10-12 decent quality photos to show the guitar off - just ready for ebay & forum adverts.
We thought this might be good for those who hate taking pics or only have a dodgy camera phone to do so.
1> do a clean up and service for anything that was needed - including frets and electrics etc - maybe issue a MOT checklist type thing.
2> Professionally photograph the guitar and offer a burnt CD with about 12 pics in Hi res and Forum and ebay friendly sizes
We have good photographic facilities and the high res images are about 40mb (HUGE:5000x2500 pixel) each & web friendly ones would be smaller (either 1024pixel or 800 pixel size)
We would charge for workbench and photo studio time at the same standard rate that we charge for repairs
Just an idea...don't know if it appeals to anyone yet.

i think thats an awesome idea. nice photos are the reason i buy a guitar half the time... especially after its been setup and polished etc.

Of course we could offer the service to people who just want a good set of photos for sharing and a service on their guitar.
We really hope to offer it to anyone buying a guitar from us - like with a custom order.
Maybe take enough pics for them to have one of those coffee table books made....

I could really see people doing this. It's a great idea. If you guys were in my area if take advantage of it.
-
I too think it's a good idea. Just try it and see if customers are waiting for this kind of service.
-
I think that is a unique and very cool idea!
-
It would appeal to me as a potential buyer.

I like the idea of having really nice photos of my guitars, and I know you always take great photos, as we see here and on the Feline site.
But - don't take this the wrong way - I'm not sure I would use it for eBay or whatever, just because of the already-high costs of eBay selling fees, PayPal charges etc. I lose enough money already without any additional costs! And thinking from the other side, as a buyer, photos are important in eBay listings, I certainly wouldn't buy anything without seeing good clear pictures of it, but I don't think they encourage me to pay a higher price than I would've anyway.
I do think it's a great idea for anyone buying one of your custom guitars. You could make it an option to have a photographic record of the building process and the finished guitar.

If you want to make the photo's yourself, you need a white wall or a white box for real clean photo's without disturbing ligth/shadows. Maybe you got one already.
-
Yes - it's just an idea and may morph into something different.
However as a few have indicated there may be times when having a nice record of their guitars would be of interest.
I fully understand about eBay and their costs and whether it would worth the expense to do something like I suggested.
However the idea of a service record / guitar Mot report is something we have long considered, even just for the regular servicing that some players have done, but also useful if they decided to sell a guitar on.

This is also valuable for insurance reasons...

Oh yes! Photos alone are good, but combined with an inspection that could be very useful!
