Title: Is there a good option for this tonal range?
Post by: imijj on March 02, 2014, 01:43:55 PM
I play a Les Paul and I'd like to be able to play Stoner/Doom metal-type riffs but also get as close to a Slash-style lead sound as possible. What would you suggest? I play through an Orange Rockerverb MK II if that matters.

Abraxas as a middle ground? I'm trying not to recommend pairing a Stormy Monday with an A-Pig

I would go alnico Nailbombs or Rebel Yells. The NB is good for metal-riffing, but cleans up nice for bluesrock and rock. I own a Rockerverb 50 head/cab. The amp is capable of doing Slash-tones with the right guitar pickups.
The RY is the rockier pickup, but capable of doing the metalstuff. This one could work good too. The Rockerverb has enough lowend to compensate the, compared to the NB, leaner bassregister of the RY.

What would you recommend in the neck slot?  VHII? Emerald?
