First the Custom Lite, and now this!

PQ, only you would include a photo of digital scales...

They look great!

Yes, they are bloody good scales. I'd be lost without 'em.
-
Uhhhh pretty! Congrats! Tell us more about it!
-
So they are your scales? - not some swine who's recalibrated them for some crafty "Yes Philly, even I can lift it" marketing shots?
But wot is it? Details?
Looks DAMNABLY cute :D
-
is that an iced tea burst? also, any BK plans for this one?
-
It's a CR8, at least I think that's the shorthand they use on the Les Paul forums - a Gibson custom shop 1958 LP Standard reissue, but with a Chambered body.
I know we often go on about the various types of chambering/weight relief Gibson use on US production Les Pauls, but until a couple of weeks ago I had no idea they made chambered Historics. I don't think they're in regular production, they just do limited runs from time to time.
I haven't looked in the control cavity yet, but as I understand it these have fully-chambered bodies with a solid block around the pickups and bridge area:

It definitely sounds and feels a bit more airy and resonant than a solidbody LP, but it's not like a 335 acoustically since the sides and top are still pretty thick.
Apart from that, it's like any other R8 - long tenon, BIG chunky neck, holly headstock veneer and all that vintage gubbins. I don't know what the colour is called, unfortunately, but I'm trying to find out! :D I don't think it's Iced Tea, it may be Bourbon Burst or even Faded Tobacco Burst but pictures of the different colours are so inconsistent.

That's very nice :D Nice weight, too.
-
Congrats! Nice top and bearable weight. You even found a scale under your bed. I thought that place would be stuffed with necks and bodies (dead wood, I mean )
-
That is a very pretty guitar. Gibson really seem to have turned things around over the last couple of years. I know the Custom Shop stuff has always been good but things like a chambered, but otherwise vintage, Les Paul seem like such a great idea. Now what about a Kahler and scalloping the fret board?
-
I was thinking of maybe a Floyd rather than a Kahler, should be OK since there's a solid centre block; just a bit concerned that with the thick neck the screws for the locking nut won't go all the way through.... having said that though, I might get the neck shaved to an Ibanez Wizard profile....
Surprisingly, I've learned, they've been making these chambered-reissue models since 2004, and covering all the different "years" of reissue Les Paul models from '52 through to '60 (including Standards and Customs). Initially they were only made for three dealers in the USA, but obviously a few have made it to the UK!
-
nice one, and er how much ?
-
How much? A lot less than a new one!
I should've said, it is a "pre-owned" guitar, but pretty much mint (apart from the VOS ageing treatment).
-
You sly fox Philly- congrats- looks lovely.
-
Those scales look sexy as hell, the LP is nice too
-
Very nice looking LP. Congrats on the NGD.

You really had me there... I was thinking "WOT??!?!?!"... right up until the "neck shaved" bit at the end... then normal service resumed.

I believe our American cousins would say 'sweet Paul bro'.
I do like the burst, not too garish, nice and tasteful
-
Yep, it is a very pretty looking beast - pretty much the looks I'd want if I was going for one.
Tell you what, to save it getting damaged, I'll look after it for you while you're sorting out all those unfinished projects :D
-
that's a nice looking Les Paul, Philly, congratulations. I've heard the pickups Gibson are using on the reissues these days are pretty good too.

I probably would have bought it regardless of the colour or flameyness of the maple, but as it happens I prefer the plain(ish) tops on the '58s. This one officially has a "lightly figured" top, not too blingy.
I've had a reply from Gibson Customer Service confirming the colour is Bourbon Burst. Quite pleased with that, based on the many pictures I've examined it was my favourite of the six available 2012 colours. And I like the name! :D
Blue, I haven't tried it through a proper amp yet, but I think the pickups are Burstbuckers (can't remember the specific models), the same as my R4 and I quite like those. Nearly all my Gibson guitars have stock pickups at the moment, but I may experiment a bit at some point. Or I may just lend it to Andy to "break it in" for me, Keith Richards style....

Because of the biscuits or the drink?
That does look really rather tasty. I keep saying "one day" about a Les Paul. This is a nice one that does make me think "one day". That weight is great too, a little lighter than my Baja.

I don't really like the drink. I love the biscuits, but I can't eat them any more.
I guess I just like the name - it's better than Washed Cherry Burst or Sunset Tea Burst.
