Title: Hey! We're back! And imma share my new toy!
Post by: Lew on July 04, 2014, 10:58:57 PM
Good to have the forum back and I see it's changed a little!

So, yea. I bought this transparent low gain overdrive but I'm not sure it's working correctly

Is it supposed to sound like that???

I traded my Maxon OD-9 to the other guitarist in my band for a new bicycle!  He owns a bike shop and it was stocktake time  :cheesy: I also traded a Mooer Black Secret for a helmet, three sets of strings for a bike lock, and a Line 6 Pocket Pod for a rechargeable set of lights for the bike, so I got rid of all this guitar stuff that I had no use for and he got rid of some stock.

I turned 50, but now it seems we're back to March 2014 so I'm still 49 and the media are stressing there are "no expectations but positive vibes" for England at the World Cup....

Forum time machine! :)

Been very busy of late tracking the guitars for my next album! Been collaborating w London-based session drummer, Claire Brock on this album, and she's playing drums on the album. FANTASTIC drummer/percussionist if you're looking for technical, non-metal drumming or percussion.

Also been taking advantage of the summer sales and picked up a few plugins from Waves: HLS, In Phase, API 2500, and NLS.

Will post more under a new thread so as not to hijack this one. :)

Well, just before the forum went down I asked about a trussrod sticking out on my Lucille. Jonathan from Feline said it came out and that I could push it back in, but that I would not enjoy it and should pour myself a strong drink. Thankfully he was only half right. It went back in and very easily so, just like that. So the drink was more about relief.
The rod is very loose now going by feel, but I got a proper neck relief again, buzz gone.

Went out last night, got a bit tipsy, got checked out by a few 40+ year olds, had a 30 year old who was batting a bit high trying to chat me up, got rejected by a fat girl, how can she disrespect the prize?!!! Stayed in bar until closing time when I could have gone to find said 30 year old but hadn't given her my number as I'm trying to find the right girl not a girl.

So, 50 eh? Isn't life meant to start at 50? You're vintage and collectible now? Anything found its way under or under from the bed?

Sounds painfull

I guess mostly I have been brewing beer & drinking it (summer of craft beer for me). Also sliding deeper and deeper into blues and sad folk music. Great chance to improve my fingerpicking and my working the additional guitar (you know the one who plays the unessential stuff which ends up defining the song?).

It used to be said that life begins at 40 (although I never noticed, personally....) and I'm led to believe that nowadays guitars are "vintage" after 30 years.  Which seems ridiculous, but then again I guess we were talking about "vintage" Strats and Les Pauls back in the '80s, and they were only 30 years old then.... doesn't time fly?  :undecided:

One or two things may have found their way under the bed to mark my half-century....  Nothing has found its way out from under the bed, although it will need to very soon, to create some space (and to start rebuilding my bank balance).

They're going for big money now they've been discontinued.

I'm looking at it as an investment.

I haven't got any good pictures - I usually only take them when I'm about to sell something!

And of course I don't have one of those moderm wireless telephone contraptions with a built-in camera.

It is the one on that other thread, but the picture's misleading - it's not as Pink as it looks, it is a proper Burgundy Mist colour, more like this one (but with Strat knobs, for now):

Georgeous one, Philly. I presume it's a Fano Alt de Facto SP6.

'Tis indeed.  Mahogany body (although the shop told me it was alder!)

This does surprise me. The Fano's SP6's I looked at Maxguitarstore in the Hague were all alder or swampash/ash.
So, actually you have a Tele Junior.

They have a Rosewood-top Alt de Facto SP6 with a Bigsby in stock now:

That is a really cool thing. I can see why you like it, that is a proper Philly guitar. Especially the pickups in that style of guitar is very interesting.

Very much so!

I must admit I didn't really want mahogany because I have so many Juniors, I wanted something a bit different, more Fender-like.  It's a bit heavier than I expected, also it was an ex-display model and arrived badly set up with buzzing saddles and too-low action..... so I was a little underwhelmed to begin with.

But it's growing on me!  I haven't had time to completely dismantle it and set it up properly, but I've got rid of the buzzes at least.  And it does sound different from a Junior despite the mahogany and 24.75" scale, the bolt-on maple neck gives it more snap and twang.  The Fralin pickups seem very well-matched, the P-90 doesn't overpower the Tele pickup at all.

It's always a little disappointing when expensive guitars miss a decent setup. But after some tlc you've got a great guitar now. Of the Fano's designs the SP6 appeals most to me. Like my Saint Blues it seems to mix best of both worlds in terms of sounds and playability (I like F-style necks). You can play nearly everything on that one.
