Title: Another Sabre vid
Post by: witeter on August 07, 2014, 12:53:56 PM
Hey guys Vik Guitars put on a competition some weeks back, so i managed to put something together for it. I didnt win (not that I thought i would) but it was good experience in doing something like this in a short period of time. I would recommend doing something like this to everyone-anyhow, hope you enjoy!
Im using my Sabre Wraith Custom through the AxeFx Ultra

I like it, nice playing. Makes me wanne get back to practicing to be less ashamed.^^

Dig the slight classic influence towards the end of the solo. The stlye as a whole was cool, not overly shreddy, no, it was musical. THumbs up!

Oh and still one heck of a tasty guitar.

Totally accidental stumble into this thread, I had no idea about Vik's comments (or the Cynic story, in fact).  He comes across as an utter tool.

I must say that before reading all that, I enjoyed witeter's clip, nice work.

I agree. Sorry for derailing the thread somewhat. I too just watched Witeter's clip and it was very enjoyable.

And wow. That JH set really suits that guitar.

Sounds good! Man I need to work on my lead playing, and songwriting. Well... all my playing!
Did I see you rocking that guitar around the guitar show last february?

One thing that always strikes me when watching guitar-player video clips is that the guys' hands don't seem to be doing anything particularly complex, most of the time.

So why doesn't it work with my hands?  :undecided:

Dmoney- you probably did!! I was at the Zilla booth doing a thrash fest  next time come and say hi

Im trying to improve my lead playing also as im better at rhythm, not sure if i will ever play lightning quick but i have a soft spot for lots of bending and  melody - if i cant hum it, i dont bother with it kinda thing lol

I think I saw you having a go on some Diezel stuff too. I recognized the guitar. Can't be too many kicking about like that! You looked like you were being serious. Ha.

My favorite players aren't super fast shredders. I like Dr Know (Gary Miller) of Bad Brains and Chris Haskett's work in Rollins Band, and a few others. Very different players. I need to learn more songs and push myself to pick up some new tricks. I need to start writing again. I really really struggle with that now. I need to find some kind of method or structure to help me start.

Haha, i was probably concentrating on not messing up what i was playing  :cheesy: dont be put off by my facial expressions lol

Regarding writing a good starting point is playing/writing with other people, then you can have feedback on your ideas and it'll help you learn about structure, and get the hang of that. If that's not possible then you could always get a verse/chorus/bridge thing going (as rough as it may be) and post it on here for feedback? im sure people would chip in with how to improve it.

I would really like to play with others but most people who ask me to jam with them aren't really that committed to jamming, or don't have the time that often and I'd like to do something on a regular basis. In that situation it ends up being left to me to write as much as possible so when we do get together we have something to work on. I find that tough. I'd prefer to jam stuff out rather than have to work on an idea as much as possible on my own first. I often get a good idea of a verse, intro, or chorus... some kind of hook... but then I get stuck and 24 hrs later I'll probably hate it what i was working on. haha. That is basically the cycle. Right now I have a couple of friends who are very talented that want to work with me but again... its the same thing. I really don't want to let this project drift away though. In any case I wish I just didn't have the hang up. I feel like I've probably built my own psychological barriers to writing music now.

It would be good to get a nice recording setup. I have a good rig for when/if i do play, but for recording the last thing I was using was the line out on my Hotplate into my macbook, running a cab sim. I had some latency issues at times. Not the best tone, but I don't mind that for rough ideas I can add some basic drums to. I was running garageband. I'm not really across recording software.

I was recently thinking of getting something like a Pod HD500X. I can use that into the front of my amps for fun, but it also seems like an easy way of getting sound into my macbook and recorded. the line out + cab sim is ok but it seems clunky, although that rig is Amp > Hotplate line out > guitar cable with large to small jack adapter > very basic audio I/O USB breakout > macbook pro with garageband. There is probably a bit of A to D conversion and adding of the cab sim that gives me a slow response.
