Title: NGD - got another Epi
Post by: metale on August 10, 2014, 12:54:52 PM
I have been really wanting to get a second Epiphone LP, and went to try a few yesterday, including a Zakk Wylde and the much acclaimed Tribute+. Came home with this:

Matt Heafy Custom. Here with my Standard:

The neck heel is carved and feels great. Other than that it just feels like a quality instrument. Only downside is the pickups, but that if fixable.

Came with some candy too: COA, strap-locks and a pickguard (which I won't install).

Nice catch, but your standard is more my cup of tea.

Thanks guys.

Telerocker, I find it a bit too much blacked out, but have considered a gold bridge and tailpiece to give it a bit more of a LPC look.

I'm not into EMGs anymore, but a Les Paul with EMGs = infinite sustain.

Yeah that's what they do. I find them sterile. I would like to hear Rebel Yells in it.

The 81 if find it sterile too (good for playing Trivum, I guess) but I kind of like the 85 on either position.
Also curious about the Hetfield set and the newer 57+66.

There are several Bkps I think would sound great on this guitar, and RYs and PKs are two of them. It may take a while before doing any swap tho, as I just bought this LP with hardcase and had pickups installed on the Fender Tele.

I think it looks good, and like them or not it's cool to get proper EMGs on a budget guitar.

I find it fascinating that nowadays you can get an Epiphone with an ebony board but not a Gibson.

True, I just wish the brands could use other combos. The 81b+85n is not a particularly good match IMO, never has been, and yet it's industry standard.

About the ebony 'board, has it been forbidden on the US or something?
