Both DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan websites have it. I was wondering if there's ever been something like this for BK?
Something like:
1) Guitar type ->
a) bright
b) dark
2) Desired change ->
a) More output
b) Fatter
c) More clarity
I'm not familiar with all their range and while I fully appreciate this may not be AS straightforward to build as it seems, but given the increasing choice of AWESOME BK pickups, it may help some of us get our heads around it!
I'm definitely willing to help build it too if people are willing to make it a thing...

It's called EMAIL BKP AND TALK TO A HUMAN! :grin:
-
Part of the key factors in BKP success is in the service, which starts with knowing their products and providing as good as possible advices, and I don't think any simplistic "pickup finder" system could match the team here. As Yellowjacket says: better talk to a human.

Could you imagine the work that would have to go in to the kind of nuanced answers you get direct from BKP or through this board? :shocked:
"Humbucker or Single or P90 or Mini? Or Humbucker-sized P90?"
"What brand/model guitar?"
"What body wood?"
"What neck wood?"
"What fretboard wood?"
"What scale length?"
"How many strings?"
"What tuning(s)?"
"Is the guitar overall acoustically bright, dark, middy (specify range if possible)?"
"How many pickups does your guitar have?"
"How many pickups are you replacing?"
"What electronics are currently installed? Do you intend to replace them when replacing the pickups?"
"What kind of rig(s) do you play through? What kind of locations?"
"What kind of music do you play (genre/subgenre/bands you like/bands you don't like/guitarists you like/guitarists you don't like/albums you like/albums you don't like/tones you like/tones you don't like)?"
"What do you like about your current sound?"
"What do you NOT like about your current sound?"
"What do you want your sound to sound like (in 10,000 words or less)?"
...all of which would end with an email to Tim or a post here on the forum saying "Well, the Pickup Chooser said this, but I don't know...." :laugh:

most of bkp service advices are based on personal experience from the bkp team and from the users feedback
you could gather a huge database over that, but you just can't automate that with some sort of decision algorithm, as there's no actual rules you could apply over personal perceptions and tastes
you could have unexpected results with pickups in situations they were supposed to behave in some other way according to predetermined unproven standards (wtf did I just say? :shocked:)
