Title: TOO NOISY AHHHH
Post by: FiXXXeR on March 19, 2006, 05:39:05 PM
Hi all,

im not complain that i have a loud amp far from it!!

its just the noise it produces is driving me mad, i have a JCM800 4212 dual channel combo. the normal channel is fine cuz ive set it for a clean sound but when i select the boost channel i get a lovly german radio station if i dont play for about 10 secs along with shite load of hiss.

i have the gain maxed on the boost channel so that is the prob but i dont want to compansate my sound for some hiss and the germans.

i was wondering if anyone has uses a MXR Smartgate??? if so please tell what they are like, will this sort my prob out??

my very complex set-up  :
Jackson Custom with BKP Nailbombs with built in fuzz factory (this doesnt produce noise when off) >>> Vox modded V847 Wah >>> JCM800 4212

i played heavy rock and thrash mainly

Thanks for any help at all

i haven't tried the mxr smartgate, but the generally accepted best noisegate for high gain is the ISP decimator (i have one, and a boss ns2).

Thanks for the help, have just been doing research on the ISP and i am blown away with the reviews and sound samples that i have found. i have got to get this  :D  sort out my noise for good.

my amp basically has a noisy pre amp stage so i may put it in the FX loop.

Cheers dude

Not every amp is happy with a noise gate in the loop, nor is every noise gate made to be used in that fashion. Try it both in the loop and in front of the amp and use what sounds best to you.

I've been using an MXR Smartgate for a while now, paid £35 on ebay (USA) - can't go wrong really.

the isp sounds better in my loop than in front of my amp. EDIT: of course, as TO says, this might be down to how good my loop is.

it cuts feedback and guitar noise in front of the amp (poor shirlding, single coil noise), and cuts amp noise (what you're after) in the loop.
