This pair of guitars cme about after hearing someone playing Jazz on a Korina V we made with BKP Stormy Mondays, and thinking it was the best jazz tone we'd ever heard, in spite of the shape being a bit too rock for some Jazz players.
So we set about making a couple of Lion cubs with all the same timbers as the so cool sounding Flying V. We did add a Walnut fronts to give a nice refined look too.
To be fair these sound great for rock, blues pop etc, but they have a smooth top end that is so cool for clean chord passages.
We are still testing out pickups, but at present one guitar has a BKP Mule in the bridge and a BKP Stormy Monday in the neck, and the other is open to experiments.
We have BKP550k pots and some nice BKP/Jensen caps in there too

Those are awesome, I'm loving the look of the korina!
Is that a set of '80s style Ibanez tuners on the second one?
-
It is a set I had to temporarily use as we were out of stock of the Gotoh 510s that will ultimtely garce that headstock.
But they are v nice (actually a set of ibanez buttons on some posh Gotohs) and I intend to use them on another project as soon as the 510s arrive
-
Lovely guitars. Why a onepiece bridge instead of a tune-o-matic?
-
They look awesome, love a plain top!

I had some of the really high end Gotoh 510 stuff in stock including these two bridges and thought they would work great.
Feel great to use.
-
These look great - that's saying something coming from a pretty much Fender man!
Does the brass bridge sound different to the other? (assuming my eyes aren't deceiving me!)
-
I think it's just one in chrome and one in gold, Ian.
-
Ah, OK. I'll blame it on the low res monitor I'm using at the moment then.
-
It's only that I'm such a hardware geek!
I've never actually tried one of those Gotoh bridges, but they do look very nicely made.
-
Put your hand in your pocket Philly!
-
They are getting ever-closer to the kind of spec I would choose, I must admit!
-
Oh my goodness, they look fabulous.
I'm guessing this is pre-finishes? How are they getting finished? "Natural" looks like a pretty good idea to me...
-
Yup - natural finish, with just a hint of amber on the Korina for a slightly aged look
-
Great looking guitars. Doesn't really look like jazz guitars to me, but same goes for a V
-
Maybe I'm selling it short calling it that as it sounds good for rock/pop/blues and jazz
OK - amended name to bluescat :)
-
Oh wow - and they've got a better name now... (the old name was fine, but I think you're right)
Dare I ask how much one of these might cost?
(Thinking of Philly's Christmas present, here, obviously... hehe)
-
Price will be about £2500 when all finished - includes Hisox case
The Gotoh 510UB bridge is v comfy to play, has good intonation adjustment AND locks in place once set up - all of which make it a winner for me.
-
Absolutely gorgeous guitars!

smooth name for some smooth guitars
-
Wow, what a great looking set of guitars.
Thanks a lot for feeding my GAS!

Looking forward to it!
I might as well ask.....
What are the neck profiles on these fine specimens? And is that a one-piece korina body?
-
They look beautiful Jon- as always.

I really love the Gotoh wrap around on my Anniversary Lion. It gives the sustain of a junior with all the adjustment of a TOM. And as Cubs, they are more junior like anyway, so it is pretty much perfect in my eyes. Great looking guitars Jon.
