Title: NGD - time to relearn everything
Post by: Andrew W on September 04, 2014, 04:14:48 PM
Long story short: I've been suffering for months from bad eczema, especially on the palm of my left hand and haven't been able to play the guitar at all, which really sucks. As the guitar is my main method of relaxing and lowering my blood pressure I decided to get a Weissenborn style guitar that I can play with a bar. It's turned up today and I can see that I have a lot to relearn, but it will be an interesting experience and, hopefully, if my skin clears up is also something I can maintain when I can play a normal guitar again.

IT'S ALL ARSE-BACKWARDS! Or is that arse-upwards?

It's from Anderwood Guitars and the service from them has been great. The guitar seems well made for the money (made in China, set up in Dorset) and has good tone when I'm not making horrible clanging buzzy noises from my terrible slide technique. I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, but I'm hopeful that some low-fi, fuzz-tastic slide tones may be forthcoming. First step on a journey.

Nice way to keep your chin up and keep working at it. I love playing lap steel, even though I stink at it!

Ditto! Though with sweel and delay it is easy to get really nice ambient sounds. That low fi blues playing is where it gets really fun, but that requires skill.

So congrats on the new guitar! Sliding is lovely and when you get back to normal guitar you will have a lot to apply there!
