Title: SAVAGE -- rough mix of instrumental from upcoming album (clip inside)
Post by: Plenum n Heather on September 06, 2014, 12:42:43 AM
Been hard at work the last couple of months getting all of the primary tracking done for the next album, and thought I would share this rough mix.

Still needs to be actually mixed, which will be after the vocals are complete, but it's a good indicator of where the album is at now.

Synths are either a Dave Smith MOPHO, Roland JV-1080, or E-Mu Classic Keys. The loops were designed by me using African drum samples.

Used a different approach on guitar and bass tracks for this album, and am interested in what the general impressions are.

Missed this!

Like it.

What's the different approach for guitars/bass of which you speak?

My gut feeling is an impression of more "immediate", "natural" (even if it isn't really!), and "in the room with me" than before? I'll be very interested to hear later mixes.

Thanks for listening! Forgot all about this myself! :)

Last album was tracked using lots of amps and speakers with a ribbon mic. This time round I used a single speaker, far less amps, and the guitars are all doubled running through two separate signal paths: one is reamp/amp/mic/mic pre and the other is an amp with line out going straight into the interface and then using the Torpdo Wall Of Sound plugin to add some 'air'.

I used the e609 as the mic on this one which also changed the sound quite a bit.
