Title: Bridge humbucker suggestion for Music Man Morse Y2D
Post by: Dennis on September 07, 2014, 08:56:42 PM
Hello all,

A couple of years ago I bought a Music Man Steve Morse Y2D guitar, with a Floyd Rose.
Ever since, it is my main guitar.
Recently I picked up my Music Man Silhouette Special again, which has a Bare Knuckle Nailbomb in the bridge position, and when I use the Y2D now, it seems to miss something.
The Nailbomb in the Silhouette sounds much more alive, 3D sounding, than the stock bridge pickup in the Morse.
It's not that the stock pickup is bad, but it just lacks bass compared to the Nailbomb in the Silhouette.
I like the Nailbomb in the Silhouette, but for clean tones, the Nailbomb really has a mid-bump which I don't want in the same way in the Y2D. This, and the Y2D being a bit darker sounding than the Silhouette makes me think that a Nailbomb is not the right pickup for this guitar.
What would be a good BKP alternative for the stock humbucker in the Y2D?  I would like it to have a some more bass and highs, and not more mids than the stock pickup, and I guess I should look into the high-output humbuckers, since the Morse also has fairly high output pickups, which makes it easier to team up with the stock neck humbucker (which is great for solos!).
The music I mostly play goes from classic rock to old-school metal (no black or death metal).
Any one a good suggestion?
