Title: VH II neck vs Cold Sweat neck
Post by: darkandrew on October 18, 2014, 12:18:50 PM
The VH II and Cold Sweat neck pickups are oftened mentioned as being generally the best for clear and articulate overdriven leads but I was wondering if anyone has been able to directly compare the two in the same guitar / amp combination and so is able to shed light on their differences? Listening to the "Neoclassical shred" samples on the website, my impression is that although similar,  the VH II has a bit more bite and the CS is a little warmer, is that your impression too?

The CS neck is sort of warm and dark but clear as a bell, if that makes any sense.

I haven't tried the VHII set at all.

I think of the vhii as being warmer or rounder and the cold sweat being clear, brighter but neither is better than the other for shreddy type stuff.

Both are brilliant but in my humble opinion the cold sweat neck is better for darker or mahogany guitars and the vhii better for say alder/ash/basswood.

Had them in the same guitar(s). CS neck is brighter, a bit clearer in the highs, still has a lot of bass, overall a more modern character.

VHII neck is a tiny bit hotter, very big and bold sounding yet tight in the low end, can appear a bit "smoky" in some guitars, overall a more vintage character.

Cheers Stephan
