Title: Frequency Response Improvements
Post by: feelthaflo on October 22, 2014, 02:16:24 AM
1 - Please show frequency response for both bridge and neck pickups
2 - Please differentiate between low and high mids in your frequency response charts
3 - Please show frequency response for both covered and uncovered pickups (if applicable)

Sincerely,
Most everyone who has ever tried to figure out which BKP to buy

Yes, I can definitely get behind this.  For sure, the 3 band graphic image doesn't get anywhere close to showing the whole picture.

These are some bridge pickups I have tried.  The Juggernaut Bridge is somewhat reflective of how it sounds in the axe I have it in.  The rebel yell I have had in two guitars and I compared the A-Bomb directly with the Rebel Yell so I can better comment on those individual pickups.  I'd say the Rebel Yell is  brighter than the A-Bomb, mostly because of the mid / upper mid focus and the more present harmonics.  the A-Bomb has more treble and more centre mids with less harmonics and a phatter low end which is big, but definitely not overbearing.  It's quite controlled and tight, which is great for beefier sounding instruments.

Juggernaut Bridge.  Output Contempory / Metal.  VERY hot pickup, as far as BKP goes.

Sub Lows Lows  Low Mids  Mids  Upper Mids  Treble  Presence

(and even that isn't the whole picture)

A-Bomb Bridge  Output  Contempory / Hard rock or Thrash.  Hot pickup but still somewhat dynamic.

Sub Lows  Lows  Low Mids  Mids  Upper Mids  Treble Presence

Rebel Yell Bridge  Output  Contempory / Vintage Hot.  I'd say it's in between.  Very dynamic like a rock pickup but it can get gnarly.

Neck pickups are even more difficult since they really begin to take on the tonal characteristics of the guitar they are in.

VHII Neck     Output:  Vintage Hot.  Definitely very dynamic.  Also very warm.

Juggerneck  Output:  Contemporary.  A powerful neck pickup for sure!  Less warm and more chimey.

Sub Lows    Lows  Low Mids   Mids Upper Mids  Treble   Presence

Rebel Yell Neck  Output  Contempory / Vintage Hot.  Dynamic but still quite powerful.  Much more chimey      / blue sort of a tone.

Such a great idea! My advice is to mention the guitar for each pickup, because that matters a lot.

Miracle Man bridge. Output: contemporary/metal. Hot and dynamic pickup. Guitar: ESP Edwards explorer / all mahogany with rosewood neck.
