I just installed a CB bridge pickup in my Ruokangas Mojo Classic(Tele-style, alder body, 3-way saddle bridge) which was previously equipped with a set of custom Haussel Mojo Blues pickups.
When I had the guitar built, I had the tone of the Black Crowes songs in mind and I want a P90 style neck so the builder Juha recommended that I try the bluesier pickups. The Mojo Blues bridge to me sounds like a Broadcaster pickup. Dark and quite similar to the BKP Flat 50's I had in a pine Esquire-type custom guitar which when driven sounds close to a humbucker. It's good but I want more dynamics and twang when needed.
So enter the Country Boy and I must say that I'm very happy with the openness, clarity and chime that it brought to the guitar. The ultra-responsive feel is very addicting and as promised in the description, there is no icepick highs yet it sounds full clean or dirty.
Thanks to Tim and the BKP crew!

Totally agree, very addictive. My Tele was used a fair bit until the CB's were installed when it became my main gigging guitar. Totally transformed it. Classic Tele tones. I've lost count of the number of times other players have commented on the tone of my humble MIM Tele.

Nice to see a little review on the CB. They come rare these days. Somehow the CB is a bit overlooked. How does is perform with higher gain-levels?

The highest gain level I tried on it so far are for Led Zep/ZZ Top tones. It's very reactive with the guitar's volume pot, producing several shades of dirt, it retains definition and is relatively not noisy at all.

I get a beautiful warm and rich tone when I crank things up a bit. The clarity remains however and I think they fare well in higher gain situations. I don't get very heavy but there are a few songs where we get a bit chuggy and my Tele does it for me. The CBs are, I agree, overlooked. Great pity because they have character in spades. I have a mate with a very old Tele and we've played them alongside one another and ihe is a bit of a tone nut. He was amazed at how close mine sounded to his.

I hadn't heard much about the County Boy so I looked for a video and this is what I found.
Very nice.
