Title: NAD: As the weather is getting colder
Post by: Toe-Knee on November 23, 2014, 12:28:57 PM
I figured I would heat the old soldering station up.

I need to do a small amount of soldering as well.

Trouble is, as the weather gets colder the daylight hours get shorter.... so I'll leave it.

Cool!

What are you building?

Cool!

What are you building?

It's a Ceriatone Yeti, Basically a hotrodded plexi similar to what Friedman/Cameron etc are all doing.

It has three modes

70s(plexi) 80s (Hotrodded 800) & Modern Which is pretty self explanatory really. All of these are selectable via the Era switch on the front panel.

I did a little more earlier until Farcry 4 arrived.

The only thing I have left to decide on really is the headshell style. I dig the whole plexi vibe but I also like the JCM800 design which would be smaller and lighter.

Cool, they"re great especially for the price, more so if you can make it yourself.

Aye they're very cost effective.

Do you have any clips of yours?

How much does it cost to make compared to buying a premade one?

Don't hide the diode clipping.

I assume its switched for the higher gain options.

Haha i'm not hiding it. Thats how they came and I couldn't be bothered dismantling them.

I can't say currently as I haven't ordered all of the parts but i'm expecting it to come out about £450 max. The real cost difference which a lot of people wont want to give up is the amount of time it will take.

Sweet project. Most clips of the Yeti sound great. Bet it's nice to have something more straight forward to work on and you gotta have a certain love for a clean turret board presentation. I vote for an 800 style head shell.

AFter the MKIIC+ this is a dream come true! It's pretty sedate. I am leaning towards the 800 style for a personal level but at this point I don't plan on keeping it too long so maybe it would sell better looking more vintage?

This is more about the experience than anything.

I managed to get 5 minutes in today between all the mayhem.

I wasn't sure about using the 'holy grail' capacitors as I know next to nothing about them but i didn't have any other multisection caps handy so in it went!

Hi Tony , couple of clips here, just a field recorder but it gives the flavour. first is plexi mode master & pre amp vols all at about midnight. second is 800 mode with master a 3 oclock and pre amps as before. this means the volume in both cases is about the same.(loud pub gig). first bright switch to the right. very tweakable amp giving pretty much any marshall tone except uber gain. it's a 50w. guitar tokai lp with bridge vh11 engaged.

I am sure that will be a great looking and sounding amp when it's done. Too bad I have not got the time for building anymore cause it's so much fun.

Cheers Stephan

Players who can build amps are totally blessed. Since I'm not, sheer admiration for your talent!

I managed to tear myself away from Farcry 4 for a little while and got the board fully populated. It got a bit cramped towards the left hand side as the turret spacing clearly wasn't done in mind with the TAD caps I didn't realise this until I had almost run out of space so I subbed one of the .1uf caps with a Mallory 150 that I had kicking around.

Now I just need to send the chassis off to get the headshell made and the rest should fly by. Well there is also the fact that Triode electronics haven't even packed my order never mind shipped it yet.

Great progress, looks really nice.

Who is making the headshell?

Tom @ Roadkill cabs. I get him to do all of my headshells/cabs.

It looks like the jcm800 style headshell is out of the question and a Plexi one is a must. I didn't spend time fully examining the parts that I wasn't working with and the faceplates only cover the part of the chassis with controls/switches so it needs a plexi style one or maybe some new faceplates.
