Title: JUGG VS. WARPIG VS. HOLY DIVER BRIDGE FOR SKERVESEN SWAN 7 BUILD
Post by: johnson on December 11, 2014, 04:04:35 PM
Wood combos are Ash body, bubbinga middle layer, burl poplar cap. The neck will be bolt-on, 5 piece rosewood - wenge strips, maccassar ebony fret board.

i would like you guys input on what would be the best for this build. Im on the Juggs as of now since this will be a bright guitar and will need a boost in the lower mids and low end. i've only tried the Juggs in a Schecter exotic star ( the best pups ive ever used especially for solos) but i wanted to try a different set. i think  the Jugg calibrated set will be best for this specific build, what do you think?

Hi and welcome.

First off, please refrain from using an all caps title here. Really not called for here mate. ;)

Main question is what you want out of your sound and what styles you are going for. If you could tell us something about that we can recommend better. Your interest in the juggs gives me a good idea where it is going, but especially a description of your dream sound is important.

Sorry friend, i didn't mean to be off putting. When i went back to see if i had any replies i noticed it looked very out of place, my apologies.  :embarrassed:

I'm looking for something very balanced, no harshness in the highs, a very deep mid punch and a Dime/Misha palm mute bass response. I love that sound that pierces the low mids.
I want a full bodied tone with balanced mids and enough bottom end to compensate the highs and pronounce its self among the entire mix but that's more of an EQ situation if I'm not mistaken.

I play a Djent-coreish style if i had to categorize. I shred a lot and emphasize solo comps very often. Just new age RockNRoll I guess  :azn:
I keep it pretty dry with a little reverb to expand the sound a bit.  My amp is a Laney iron heart studio (decimator noise gate in the FX loop) w/ 6505 strait cab, stock speakers. To record i use the same amp with a Laney 1x12 cab with a v30, sm57 strait to the interface. (Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2 with fl studio 11)

No worries, itīs all good mate. You saw how it just looked a bit out of place. Especially cause it does not fit you posts at all. =)

Anyhow, what you describe does indeed scream Juggernaut, so you had the right idea from the start. It has the rounded hights that fit both the modern high gain amps and your guitar, which as you said is likely to be on the bright side. It does not become dull though, so you should have no issue staying in the mix. The low end is tight, but not as surgical as an Aftermath thanks to the magnet composition. I do not think I need to go much into the Misha esque punch since that is a given with a Misha signature pickup. It is a modern pickup in voicing, no question, but it is suprisingly versatile withing that range.

Where the bridge is a fusion of the Blackhawk and the Aftermath the neck is based on the VHII neck, but changed to keep up with the bridge. The VHII is a classic neck PU for shred and rock with a bit of a single coil touch to it. The Jugg neck takes that concept up a notch to match the higher output modern bridge.

So yeah, I think you should really be happy with them. They match what you describe more than any other pickup I can think of.

Warpig or jugg for the bridge. jugg  or vhII for the neck. the Warpig is perfect for bright guitars that are also bolt on. it growls and has sick harmonics and has killer clarity.
let us know

I think im going for the juggs since they are so balanced and the pair will compliment each other. Thanks so much for the help guys!!!

Now to the binding and fillets.  :cheesy:  Do you guys know how thick the fillets on the B2's are? 3/8" or 1/2"?

I've been told by the guy at The Axe Palace that the Bubbinga middle layer is irrelevant as it is just for aesthetics and that i should go with a mahogany body with the burl poplar top. He doesn't like the Juggs and his explanation made since although i couldn't recite it at the moment . He raved about the ceramic black hawk for the ash body and the mahogany.  he also recommended the Abraxas  or  the Emerald with the mahogany. wat would be the best overall full crunchy tone with balls and guts  :cheesy: I  know this is one guys opinion but he is one of the only Bare Knuckle, Mayones, Lundgren, (that style and interest) dealer in the US that certified that i know of. Whats the reality about this?

So he has convinced you to change the body wood from ash to mahogany and to change the pup choice also?

The Black hawks are awesome in mahogany. Also in Ash too. Skervesen always recommends the black hawk with an ash body.  just check out youtube.

No. I have been going back with Maciek and Jarek the past couple of days and i am sticking with my original configuration. There is no right or wrong, just preferences, its just hard to test brands that are made over seas with limited access in Texas. im going with a cal set of Alnico Warpigs for this specific build  Maciek said the black hawks cut like a knife in ash, a little harsh sounding.

fillets are the "strips" in multiply necks, 5 peice or more, example: Ibanez necks are usualy maple necks with walnut or wenge fillets

REALLY thank you guys so much for your input!!! it is much appriciated to be a new member of this forum, feels like home!!!
